Lam Chieu Dong

Lam Chieu Dong was born in 1956 in Vinhlong
province. His main skill is collage art. With
coloured paper and magazine covers that he tears
up and sticks on the canvas, he conjures up the
striking beauty of daily life scenes Girls on
their way to school, fishermen taking a break in
their boats, a man with his cyclo on the last day
of the year and dawn on the Mekong River. He said
it is complicated to make good collages, because
it requires patience and the time to get good
products.
His collages have won awards at the fine arts
exhibition in the Mekong Delta region
He also paints with lacquer on fake paper and
makes sculptures using fake stone, fake wood and
fake bronze. He made an artificial bronze statue
of the Bodhisattva of Mercy using sponges it
weighs less than 300 grams and has yet to
deteriorate with the passage of years.
