Bath is a city in southwestern England
with over 90,000 inhabitants. It is located 160
km west of London in the valley of the river
Avon. It covers an area of 29 km² and is famous
for its baths fed by three hot springs. Their
temperature exceeds 40 C. They are the hottest
geothermal springs in the UK. The first
documented mention of the city comes from the
time of Roman rule, when the Roman baths are
mentioned. The Romans probably occupied Bath
shortly after their invasion of Britain in 43.
From the Elizabethan to the Georgian period, it
was a resort for the wealthy. In the 18th
century, the city was an important cultural
center attracting aristocracy from all over the
country. After London, Bath is the most visited
city in Great Britain. The main source of income
for the city is tourism. It has been on the
UNESCO World Heritage List since 1987.
Bath es una ciudad del suroeste de
Inglaterra con más de 90.000 habitantes. Está
situada a 160 km al oeste de Londres, en el valle
del río Avon. Tiene una superficie de 29 km² y es
famosa por sus baños, alimentados por tres
fuentes termales cuya temperatura supera los 40
C. Son las fuentes geotermales más calientes del
Reino Unido. La primera mención documentada de la
ciudad se remonta a la época romana, cuando se
mencionan las termas romanas. Los romanos
probablemente ocuparon Bath poco después de su
invasión de Gran Bretaña en el año 43 d.C. Desde

Británii. Prvá doložená zmienka o meste pochádza
z doby vlády Rimanov, ked sa spomínajú rímske
kúpele. Rimania pravdepodobne obsadili Bath
krátko po svojom vpáde do Británie v roku 43. Od
alžbetínskeho do georgiánskeho obdobia to bolo
výletné miesto bohatých. V 18. storocí bolo mesto
významným kultúrnym centrom pritahujúcim
aristokraciu z celej krajiny. Bath je po Londýne
najnavštevovanejšie mesto Velkej Británie.
Základným zdrojom príjmov mesta je turistika. Od
roku 1987 je na zozname svetového dedicstva
UNESCO.
