terracotta and stone works of art ranging from
the 7th to the 15th centuries

6Champa was an Indic civilization that flourished
along the coasts of what is now central and
southern Viet Nam for roughly a one thousand year
period between 500 and 1500 AD. The remnants of
classical Cham arts extant today are seen mainly
in brick temples, sandstone sculptures in the
round, and sandstone sculptures in high and low
relief. A few bronze sculptures and decorative
items made of metal remain as well
7The female breast decoration expresses the
femininity and affirms the role of the woman in a
matriarchy. This is a common and typical
decorative motif of Thap Mam style

10Reportedly founded in 1915, its first building
opened in 1919. Prior to the establishment of the
museum, the site was known as the "garden of
sculptures" and many Cham sculptures that had
been collected in Da Nang, Qu?ng Nam and
elsewhere had been brought there over the
preceding twenty years.
