A COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO WAREHOUSE CLEANING BEST
PRACTICE

INTRODUCTION
A warehouse is a critical part of businesses. A
clean and organized warehouse remains productive
throughout the year. Regular cleaning helps
prevent tripping accidents and hazards from
spills or toxic debris. By performing warehouse
cleaning chores, business owners can enhance the
life span of the equipment. Deep cleaning
throughout the premises ensures compliance with
rules and overall efficiency. Whats more,
warehouse cleaning prevents excess moisture and
dust from building up on inventory, enhancing its
life.

PREPARE A CLEANING SCHEDULE
Warehouses are vast, so you need a clear plan to
cover them thoroughly. Start by segregating the
place. Based on traffic and usage, include the
areas under the regular, weekly, and monthly
cleaning schedules. Prepare cleaning schedules
for each location. Highlight the dirtied spaces
like loading docks, processing units (if any),
etc. Start working strategically by including
these places in your regular cleaning schedules.
Try to clean the storage areas and refill the
shelves and office rooms at least once a week.

LABEL FLOORS AND STORAGE SOLUTIONS ACCORDINGLY
Put labels on floors to keep things organized.
Put arrow marks for different paths. For
instance, keep a separate path for walkways.
Leave a segregated path to move equipment. Keep
an individual path to move and store packages.
Use a leveling system for the storage areas to
avoid clutter in the storage areas. It also helps
to prevent mix-ups and stay focused and
organized. This practices is even increases the
efficiency and accuracy of the operation in
warehouses.

5
DEVELOP A WASTE DISPOSAL PLAN
Keep a waste disposal system ready. A lot of
waste is generated in warehouses from paper
boxes, plastic, and other residuals. To control
the waste, come up with a waste management and
disposal plan. This particular strategy will make
the team dispose of waste on time effectively.
There will be no overflows from waste bins, foul
smells, or garbage. Keep a recycling strategy to
adapt a sustainable cleaning strategy. Before
recycling, remove tape from boxes and flatten
them to ensure they can be processed efficiently.

ASSIGN EMPLOYEES THEIR OWN CLEANING TASKS
  • Make sure all employees take ownership of their
work. When all employees enthusiastically perform
the assigned task, the overall output will
    improve. Share responsibilities and encourage
employees to have their say in the work.
  • Here is some example of work allocation
  • Allot the sorting and cleaning work to one team
  • Let another team take care of the stock
    arrangement
  • Allocate tasks to clean the equipment.

TAKE NOTE OF HARD-TO-REACH AREAS
Nooks and crannies are always overlooked in
regular cleaning. Include these areas in your
cleaning checklist. Make sure to clean the top,
corner, and underneath of the shelf at least once
a week. Also includes the ceiling fan, sliding
tracks, partitions, and air vents.

REGULARLY MOP THE FLOORS
Warehouse cleaning floors are vast, and mopping
them takes work. Use brooms and mops regularly to
clean the floors and bring them a pristine shine
every day. Segregate the areas into strategic
zones and mop them throughout the week based on
their usage. Make sure to sanitize and wash the
critical zones thoroughly as needed. Use slippery
cotes on those floors to avoid any kind of
failing hazards.
