DEFINITION OF DIRECTIONS
Electro Lift - Used on tractor number 53265 to
lower or raise the mower. Lower the unit as
follows Turn ignition on, and press the switch
lever down, holding it in position until mower
wheels are on the ground. Release switch lever
it will automatically return to Off position.
To raise mower for transporting, press switch
lever up, holding in position until mower is
fully raised. Release switch lever for return to
Off position (See Fig. 1-A). Keep your
hands and feet away from Electro Lift when
it is in operation.
As used throughout this manual, the following
defini- tions apply Right and Left refer to
the operator's right and left when seated in the
nor mal operating posi- tion on the tractor.
Forward and Rearward like- wise refer to the
directions from the viewpoint of the
operator. OPERATING INSTR UCTIO NS Make certain
the power drive clutch is disengaged be - fore
starting the tractor engine. For all cutting
condi- tions, operate the engine at full throttle
to maintain suffic rent blade speed.

ELECTRO LI FT SWIT
TRAC TOR GROUND SPEE D
Gear driven tractor - for light to medium
cutting op- erate the tractor in 2nd or 3rd gear.
For heavy cutting, shift the transmission into
low gear. The mower will not cut clean or even
if the forward speed of the tractor is too last.
ELECTRIC CLUTCH SWITCH
HYDRO STATIC
Driven tractor - for all cutting conditions ,
move the control lever forward until the tractor
ground speed matches the cutting conditions ,
that is when the mower is making a clean, level
cut.
Figure l-A
Hyd rauli c lift - To rai se the mower for
transporting, move the pump control handle
rearward until the mower is raised to the
tractor frame, then release the handle. To
lowe r the mower for cutting, move the pu mp
cont ro1 hand le forward unt il the mower rests
firmly on the ground, then re lease the handle.
OPERATING MOWER
The operation of the mower is controlle d from
the op- erator' s position on the tractor by the
imple ment lift handle or hydraulic lift and the
power drive clutch.
He etric Clutch - Used on tractor numbers
53078, 53089, 53250, and 53265, to engage
and disengage engine power for driving the
mower. To operate (See Fig. 1-A) push
toggle up which will engage clutch. Pilot
light is lit. Push toggle down to dis - engage
clutch. The pilot light should go out when
clutch is disengaged.
impale ment lift handle - The mower is raised or
lowered by the implement lift handle. To raise
the mower for transporting, move the imp le ment
lift handle rearward as far as poss ible and lock
the handle in the nearest notch in the quad rant.
When the mowe r is attached to tractor numbers
53057, 53059, 53071, 53081. and 53091, the
mower is lowe red to the cut ting position by
moving the implement lift handle forward as far
as required to allow the mower to float on the
ground. On tractor numbers 53062, 53064, 53066,
53075, 53078, 53083, 53086, 53089, 53093 and 532
50 lower the mower by moving the implement lift
handle forward until the handle contacts the
stop in the quadrant (See Fig. 1).
Power drive cout ch - The power drive clut ch
engages and dise ngages the engine power for d
riving the mower. Moving the powe r drive clutch
handle (See Fig. 2) fo rward engages the clut ch
to drive the mower. Pull - ing the handle
rearward, disengages the clutch.

CUTTING HEIGHTS The cutting heights can be ob-
tained in two ways. It should be noted that the
mower will always ride parallel to the tractor
frame using either method. The height can
either be set by using the rear wheels or the
lift lever on the tractor. The mower is always
free to float up and either the wheels or the
lift lever act as a down stop. If perfect
contour cutting is desired, the way to obtain
this is by setting the cutting height desired by
the rear wheels. When lowering the mower for
contour cutting move and lock lift lever slightly
past the ve rtical position to allow the mower to
float independently of the tractor. If finer
incresents of cutting heights are desired and
contour mowing is not a must, the lift lever can
be used to set the cutting height. The rear
wheels will still act as a down stop and float
the rotary over obstructions.
  • rotate slide mechanism clockwise. After making
    adjustment, tighten screws securely.
  • Start tractor engine, engage power drive clutch
    and
  • check belt position on pulley. Repeat adjustment
    if necessary.
  • Reinstall rotary belt shield.

TIMING BE LT ADJUSTMENT (See Fig. 4)
If the tim ing belt jumps timing due to hitting
an ob- struction, remove the right belt cover and
loosen up the four nuts holding down the right
hand cutter bearing tube, slide the assembly to
loosen the belt and then turn the cutter bars so
they are 90 to each other. When this setting is
correct, the black lines on the pulleys will be
parallel. Slide the right hand cutter tube to the
r ight to t ighten the timing be It and t ighten
the four screws in the cutter bearing. The
belt must be fair ly tight, about 3/8 def ie ct
ion between pulleys when the belt is gripped
firmly. Replace belt cove r.
HIGH C UTTING ADJUSTMENT OVER ROUGH GROUND
Always use the lift lever for a high cut over
rough ground. Remove the rear wheels or place in
the upper hole so that the wheels will not
interfere or drag over
uneven terrain. In this position the wheels will
not

raise the mower into the tractor frame, causing
a hung up condition (tractor drive wheels

ground), when an obstruction is encountered.

DRIVE BE LT ALIGNMENT OF FLAT IDLER PULLEY (See
Fig. 3)
  • TO check belt alignment
  • Lower mower to operating position.
  • Remove rotary belt shield, start engine , and en-
gage power drive clutch. Drive belt should
ride approximately in the center of the flat
idler pulley. If belt rides off center, adjust
    as follows

MTG NU
TO adjust belt alignment
Figure 4
  • Determine if the belt runs to the inside
(towards the tractor) or to the outside of the
    flat idler pul- ley.
  • Disengage power drive and STOP ENGINE. If belt
  • rides to the inside of pulley, loosen the two
screws securing slide mechanis m to the deck and
rotate counter- clockwise. If the belt rides to
    tneouts ide,

CUTTER BAR PELLEY BEARINGCLEARANCE (See Fig. 4)
If the bearing adjustment on the cutter bar
pulley and shaft is out of adjustment because of
removal of parts or by wear, the clearance can be
adjusted as follows
TIMI NG BELT
Be sure the cutter bar is sc rewe d tight to the
shaft. Remove c otter pin on adjusting nut
holding pulley to shaft. Turn nut down tight
until all play is removed in bearing. Back nut
off to nearest slot and insert cotter pin. This
will provide the correct clearance in the two
bearings.
DRIVE BELT
IDLER PULLEYS
PULLEY BELT RETAINER
After adjustment spin shaft to be sure shaft
turns freely. Tap top of shaft with soft hammer
to seat bearing. If still too tight, back nut
off one more notch and recheck free turning. LUB

under extremely dirty cutting conditions clean
off oil and dirt from rear wheels, bushings and
studs. Re-oil with SAE No. 30 oil.
