THE TRACTOR O Know the controls and how to stop
quickly. READ THIS OPEPATOP'S MANUAL and
instructions furnished with at- tachments. O Do
not modify or alter or permit anyone else to
modify or alter this tractor or any of its
components or any tractor function. O Do not
allow children to operate the vehicle. Do not
allow adults to operate it without proper
instruction. O Do not carry passengers. Do not
mow when children and others are around. There is
no safe place for extra riders. O Keep all
shields in place. O Replace safety and warning
decals when they become iilegiDle. FUEL USAGE
SAFETY O Handle gasoline with care. It is highly
flammable. Only use approved gasoline container.
- Except for adjustment do not operate engine if
air cleaner or cover directly over carburetor air
intake is removed. Removal of such part could
create a fire hazard. - Do not operate without a muffler or tamper with
the ex- - haust system. Damaged mufflers or spark arresters
could create a fire hazard. Inspect periodically
and replace if necessary. - Do not operate the tractor engine in an enclosed
building - without adequate ventilation. Exhaust fumes can
cause death. - Do not start the engine or operate controls while
standing - beside the tractor. Always sit in the tractor
seat when start- - ing the engine or operating controls.
- Do not get off the tractor while it is in motion.
- Before leaving the operators position, disengage
power to attachment(s), lower the attachments,
shift into neutral, set the parking brake and
stop the engine and remove key (if so equipped. - Never leave the unit when it is parked on an
incline. Always park the unit on level ground
where possible. If the unit is to - be parked on an incline, always lower the
attachment(s), set the parking brake. and
securely block the wheels. - Drive the tractor with care and at speeds
compatible with safety, especially when operating
over rough ground, crossing ditches, slopes and
when turning to avoid upsets. When using any
attachments, never direct discharge of material
toward bystanders nor allow anyonenearthevehi-
cle while in operation. - Keep people and pets a safe distance away from
machine. Disengage power to attachment(s) when
transporting or not in use. - Keep the tractor in the same gear when going
downhill as - used when going uphill. Do not coast or free
wheel - down hills.
- Use care when pulling loads or using heavy

BRAKE CLUTCH PEDAL This pedal is foot operated
and controls only the brake on this tractor. The
pedal is on the right-hand side of frame. To
operate Depress Drake clutch pedal fully. This
will auto matically out the hydrostatic
traction drive in neutral and engage the
brake. f4OTE The Lraie clutch pedal must be
completely dep- ressed, one! the P.T.O. switch
must be in the OFF position before the engine can
be stcirted. FORWARD ABB REVERSE TBACTlOf2
DRIVE âPEED CONTROL PEDALS The forwcrci ond
reverse pedals sre the two ends of a single
rocker tyñ ? assembly. These two pedals are
located just above the- r.Chi foot rest. To
operate E'epress the forward pec1ai nd or the
reverse pedal end to control the tractors
forwarci or reverse move- ment and speed. testing
your heel on the loot rest while dep- ressing the
forward pedal provides a comfortable footposition
for iong time oDerations.
GROUND SPEED CONTROL LEVER
This hand control provides the convenience of
operating the tractor
in forward movement without having to
continuously depress the forward foot pedal.The
ground speed control lever is located on the
right-hand side of the instrument panel.
Operation To maintain a desired ground speed,
move the ground
speed control lever to the left and upward,
positioning itin a notch that maintains desired
ground speed. If pround speed control is not set
for maximum ground speed. the
control can be over-ridden by depressing the
forward pedal to
increase the ground speed not the engine speed.
When forward pedal is released, the speed control
will maintain the previously set ground speed.
To instantly disengage the speed control, apply
the brake clutch
pedal. The ground speed control can also be
released by hand with a slight leftward nudge.
NOTE The reverse pedal islocked out when
ground speed control is engaged. The ground speed
control lever
must be in the released position before the
tractor can be reversed.
The use of the ground speed control function is
not possible when tractor is operateci in reverse.

10HEADLIGHT SWITCH This rocket type switch turns
the lights ON and OFF. To turn lights ON, push
top of switch in. To turn lights OFF, push bottom
of switch in. IGNITION SWITCH For safety purposes
a key type ignition switch isutilized forstart-
ing and instantly stopping the engine. TO START
Turn and hold key at START position until engine
is running then release key. Turn key to OFF
position to stop engine. SEAT ADJUSTER HANDLE TO
ADJUST Sit in tractor seat pull seat adjuster
handle up to release lock, then slide seat
forward or backward to desired position. Release
handle to secure adjustment.
CHOKE CONTROL This control aids in starting a
cold engine. For cold engine starting pull knob
outward. As the engine
warms, push in. Choke is not required for
restarting a warm
engine. ENGINE SPEED CONTROL
This control regulatesthe engine speed from SLOW
(idle) to
FAST (maximum operating power and speed). When
starting engine, set control to a mid-range
position. As
engine warms up, gradually move control to
maximum FAST
position. NOTE Always use maximum FAST position
when attachments are being used. To idle, set
control in SLOW position. P.T.O. POWER
TAKE-OfiF) SWITCH 1is switch controls the drive
to engine powered attachments. NOTE The P.T.O.
must be in the OFF position and brake clutch
pedal must be completely depressed before the
enpine can be started. WARNING To avoid personal
injury, before engog ing the P.T.O., be sure the
attachment is clear of any obstacles. To ENGAGE,
pull toggle lever out then up to the ON position.
To DISENGAGE, pull toggle lever out then down to
the OFF position.

WARNING Toavoidpersonolinjury,theP.T.O.should
never be on unless on engine powered oWochment is
being operated. Turn P.T.O. off when transporting
on attachment to and from a work area.
P.T.O. WARNING LIGHT Thiswarning light will go on
when P.T.O. switch is in the ON posi- tion,
warning you that an attachment has power. The
light will operate only if ignition key is in the
ON position. Light will turn off if P.T.O. switch
or ignition key is turned off. IMPORTANT Before
starting tractor, check light. For your safety,
keep warning light operating correctly.

11PARKING BRAKE LATCH This latch is hand operated
and sets the parking brake. The latch is located
on the left-hand side of the frame above the
footrest. TO SET Depress brake clutch pedal
completely and slide latch forward and up to SET
position (see circled illustration, Fig 2.1A). TO
RELEASE Depress brake clutch pedal until lofch
releases. WARNING To avoid personal injury, the
parking hould be set before the operator leaves
IMPLEMENT LIFT LEVER 'efer to Fig. 2.1A. This
hand operated lever controls the hydraulic
lifting system which will raise
attachments(mowers, tillers. etc.)fortransporf or
lower them for operation. The lever is located
between the seat and instrument panel. Be sure
the implement has been properly attached before
using lift lever. The engine must be running for
raising implements. To RAISE implement, pull
lever back. To LOWER implement, push lever
forward. Lower implement to the ground before
leaving the tractor. WARNING To avoid personal
injury, never operate mower with attachment lltt

completely before operot ing. DO NOT OPERATE
MOWER WITH GUARDS RE- MOVED.
AXLE RANGE CONTROL (2 SPEED) This hand operated
control is used to select a high or low operating
speed range for the rear axle or when set to
neutral N allows the tractor to be towed or moved
manually (free wheeled) without starting the
engine. The axle range control lever is located
just ahead of the seat (Fig. 2.1A). When
operating the tractor the two speed axle control
must be ineither the HI orLOWrange.ThetroctorwIIl

2.3A). The LOW range setting allows the tractor
to perform heavier woil or operate on more
difficult terrain. The HI range setting is
suitable for light to moderate work on level

panel. This dual instrument numerically registers
the number of hours the engine has been
run. AMMETER (14 H.P. 18 H.P.) I?efer to Fig.
2.1A. The ammeter indicates whether battery is
charging or dis- charging.Theammeterisontheinstrum
ent panel. Movement of ammeter needle to the
right of center indicates battery is charging
movement to the left indicafes battery is
discharg- ing. Normal operation of the tractor
will keep fhe battery fully charged.NOTE
Ifammeterdoesnotmove.orindicatescons- tant
discharging, contact an authorized dealer for
service.

123 TRIAL RUN
TRANSMISSION OVER HMTING When using the tractor
for extreme and/or continuous work during very
warm weather the transmission may start toslip.
The slippage is caused by the oil in transmission
being too hot.
Now that you have located the controls and
understand their
operation and function it is time to test ride
your new tractor.
Do this without operating an attachment until you
have the
feel of the unit.
A
WARNING To avoid personal injury,give complete
and undivided attention to safe operation of the
kactor. Remember, improper use of the tractor is
hazardous. WARNING To avoid personal injury from
overturns, do not use wheel weights, a weight
box, or any additional weights for stability when
operating hoc tor on hills.
When slipping occurs the transmission must be
cooled down.
This isdone by letting the tractor idle for a
short time or shut the
engine off and allow transmixion to
cool. IMPORTANT If tractor is used while
transmission is slipping, serious damage to the
transmission could result.
- (For increased traction, use only authorized
wheel weights). - This tractor is equipped with an interlock system
which will allow the engine to start only if the
brake clutch pedal is fully depressed, the P.T.O.
is in the OFF position and the operator is
properly seated. - BEFORE STARLING
- Be cerfain that the engine crankcase is filled
with oil and the engine service instructions
have been followed com- pletely. - Sit on the tractor seot in the normal operating
position. - Move P.T.O. to OFF position.
- Set engine speed control in mid-position between
SLOW and FAST. - Pull choke outward if starling a cold engine.
Choke might - not be required if starting a warm engine.
- ó. Select the desired axle range. Low is
recommended for - trial run.
- TO START
- Fully depress brake clutch pedal.
- Turn ignition key to START until the engine
starts. then re- lease the key. Do not engage
starter for more than a 10 second duration. - I eIease the brake clutch pedal. TO OPERATE
- To move forward, depress the forward drive pedal.
To reverse - movement, depress the reverse drive pedal.
- WARNING To avoid personal In)ury, start with a
very slow ground speed, and gradually Increase to

SPECIFICATIONS
- DAILY SCHEDULE
- GENERAL Make general visual inspection of
tractor for lease or damaged parts. Check nuts
and bolts periodically to insure against
looseness caused by vibration or rough han-
dling. Check for oil leaks from engine,
transmission and dif- ferential. Damaged ports
should be repaired or replaced before using
tractor again. - ENGINE OIL LEVEL Refer to the SET-UP AND
ASSEMBLY sec- - tion("Initial Servicing'gfor proper type of oil
and crankcase capacity. Check oil level with
tractor on level ground and the engine stopped.
Before removing dipstick, clean dirt from around
dipstick and opening. - DUST SCf?EEN lnspecfdust screen(behindengine)forc
haff or dirf build up and clean as required. - 4 Als'CLEANEP Visually inspect air cleoner if
operating under dusty conditions (Fig. 4.2A). - 5. BATTERY Terminals should be tight and free of
corrosion. The sfrap should be snug over
battery.TopofbafteryshouId be clean and dry.Check
level of electrolyte.MaintaineIec- trolyte level
up to the bottom of vent walls.Add clean dis-
tilled water as needed. - ó. OPEVTING LIGHTS Check operation of all lights
before starting and using your tractor. - IMPORTANT If light does not work, check circuit
and cor- rect failure before starting or using

replacement parfs from your authorized dealer. - 7. HYDI OSTATlC TI ANSMISSION COOLING The fan
and the fins on the transmission must be kept
free of grass clippings, dirt and other debris
that can impede efficient cooling. Use a suitable
soft brush to remove any accumulations of debris
from these components. IMPORTANT Do not use
water, or any other liquid solvents to clean on
or around this area of the transmission!

In some areas, local lawrequirestheuseof a
resistorsparkplug so as to suppress ignition
interference of airwave signals. If an enpine was
originally equipped with resistor spark plups, be
sure to use the same type of spark plugs for
replacement. BREAKIN MAINTENANCE AND
LUBRICATION IMPORTANT Apply oil and grease
carefully and only where required. Oil or grease
on drive belts or pulleys will cause slip-
pageand loss of drive. Thoroughlywipeup any
excess grease, oil and spills. For maximum
efficiency and trouble free service, make the
following periodic inspections of the tractor.
For engine main- tenance, refer to the SET-UP AND
ASSEMBLY section (Initial fVÏCÏF\Çj). 1. The
engine oil should be changed after the first 5
hours of operation (thereafter every 25 hours).
The oil drain cap is located on the right-hand
side of engine just above frame or directly in
front of the engine. Place tractor on a level
surface. Place an oil drain pan under drain and
remo'ze oil drain cap. The best time to change
oil is just ofier the engine has been run. After
the oil has been drained. replace the oil drain
cap. Remove the oil fill cap and dipstick. For
proper type of oil and crankcase capacity refer
to the SET-UP AND ASSEMBLY section (Initial
Servicing'g. Add half of required amount of oil,
oil capacity is 1.5 _at_ts.(1.4 liters)for 18 H.P.
and 2 _at_ts.(1.9 Iiters)for 14 H.P. Check oil
level, then add remaining amount of oil to reach
oil level on dipstick. Do not overkill. When
checking oil level, push dipstick assembly firmly
but slowly until cap bottoms on lube. Dipstick
assembly must be
securely assembled into tube at all times when
engine is operating. 2. Perform all other checks
and maintenance called for under Daily, 25
Hour, 50 HouL, and 100 Hour sche- dules.

15- 25 HOUR SCHEDULE
- GENEI AL Peiform the "Daily maintenance
schedule. - ENGINE OIL Change every 25operating hours(more
often under dusty conditions). Change as
described under the MAINTENANCE AND LUBI?ICATION
section ("Break-In Main- Penance and
Lubrication). - FOR 1J H.P. UNITS ONLY
- AU CLEANEI Remove paper cartridge (Fig. 4.2A).
Clean by tapping gently on flat surface. If very
dirty. replace car- tridge. Service more often
if necessary. - FOR 18 H.P. UNITS ONLY
- All? CLEANEI? Clean and re-oil foam pre-cleaner
at three month intervals or every 25 hours,
whichever occurs first. NOTE Service air cleaner
more often under dusty condi- tions. - I emove wing nut and cover (Fig. 4.2A).
- I2emove foam pre-cleaner by sliding it off the
paper cartridge. - 1. Wash foam pre-cleoner in liquid detergent and
water. - Squeeze pre-cleaner to remove water. Allow to air
dry. - Saturate foam pre-cleaner in engine oil. Squeeze
to remove excess oil. - Install foam pre-cleaner over paper cartridge.
I?eassem- ble cover and screw down tight. - MUFFLES? Inspect muffles for corrosion and
deterioration. Replace muffler if it is damaged
and/or leaks. If the muffles isequipped with
spark arresterscreenassembly, remove for
cleaning and inspection. I eplace if damaged. - GI?EASE Use NLGI Grade 2 Lithium base EP grease
Ford Part No. 1T-M1C137-B or equivalent. NOTE
Clean off grease fittings before afiaching
grease gun. Grease until the grease comes out of
bearings.Wipe off excess grease. Use a pressure
type grease gun. - Pefer to Fig. 4.2B.

cutting tall dry grasses. Remove the blower
housing and clean to avoid overspending, over-
heating and engine damage. Clean more often if
neces- sary. Clean muffles area to remove all
grass, dirf and combustible debris. - 100 HOUR SCHEDULE
- GENEf2AL Perform the 50 HouL maintenance
schedule. - AIP CLEANEf2 Remove paper cartridge (Fig. 4.2A).
Clean
