DEFINITION OF DIRECTIONS Reference to "right"
and "left" side of tractor is from operator's
position when seated in normal operating
position. Reference to "forward" and "rearward"
is likewise from operator's position.
GENERAL INFORMATION the clutch-brake pedal is
pushed down firmly, the
POWER PLANT
clutch is disengaged and the brake is
applied to stop tractor motion. NOTE The
clutch-b rake pedal will have to be depressed
firmly and locked in park position to engage the
safety start switch on tractor, in order to start
the engine by turning the key switch clockwise.
Your tractor is powered by a single cylinder,
4-cycle engine that uses "regular" gasoline.
DO NOT MIX OIL WITH GASOLINE FOR THIS ENGINE
! Engine speed is controlled by means of a
throttle lever con- veniently mounted on the
dash. GASOLINE The engine manufacturer
recommends use of non- leaded gasoline of 90
octane rating or higher . Study this manual
carefully until you are familiar with the
care maintenance, operation, adjustment and
repair of your tractor engine. Proper
attention will assure maximum service life of the
engine and highest operating efficieney.
IGNITION SWITCH AND KEYS Two ignition keys are
supplied with each tractor, taped to the
ignition switch at time of delivery. To turn
ignition "ON" insert key in switch and
turn elockwise (See Figure 6). The Electric
Start Tractor has an automotive type switch
which is a combination ignition and starter
switch. The Manual Start Tractor is equipped
with an off and on type ignition switch. Ignition
keys should be removed when the tractor is not
in use to prevent unauthorized
operation. MANUAL START ONLY An automatic rope
rewind starter, with the starter rope handle
located on the left side of the hood (See
Figure 2), is furnished with each tractor for
ease of starting. A slow, firm pull is
all that is needed to start the engine.
DRAE TRAN Electric and Manual Start Tractors.
Engine power is transmitted to the rear
wheels
through a drive belt and "TRANSAXLE" located on
the rear axle. This is a single, oil-tight
assembly which combines the functions of an
automotive- type transmission and differential.
It provides three speeds forward and one speed
in reverse.
The transmission is coupled to an automotive
-type differential that allows the tractor to be
maneuvered without unnecessary wear to the rear
tires. C LUTCH- BRAKE PEDAL (See Figure 1) The
clutch and brake are operated by one foot pedal,
conveniently located above the left foot rest.

CHOKEANDTHROTTLELEVER One convenient lever
controls both the choke and throttle. This
lever is located on the right side of the
instrument panel (See Figure 6).
When starting a cold engine, push the lever
forward to close the choke. After the engine
starte, move lever to Medium position as
indicated on lever decal. The portion of the
decal marked Fast, Medium and Slow is the
throttle section. This area of lever travel
controls the flow rate of air and fuel mixture to
the engine and thus regulates engine speed. When
the lever is moved to the Fast position or pushed
forward, the engine speed increases and when it
is pulled back towards Slow position, the engine
speed decreases. Detailed instructions are given
on Page 7 under "Start- ing and Stopping Engine".
3-SPEED TRANSMISSION GEAR SHIFT LEVER The gear
shift lever is positioned directly in front of
the seat for easy shifting of the transmission
from one gear to another. A decal showing the
complete diagram of gear shift positions has
been installed on your tractor (See Figure 7).
Detailed instructions of gear selection and
method of shifting is given under "Operating
Instructions".

providing added traction, and have considerably
less tendency to mark turf or sink into such
surfaces as loose soil, soft sand, etc. They
also provide a soft, smooth ride on rough terrain.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
  • OPERATING SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
  • Before getting off tractor, or permitting
anyone to work on machine or implement, perform
    the following
  • Put shift lever in neutral.
  • Declutch attachment.
  • Set parking brake.
  • Shut off engine.
  • Allow adequate time for all moving parts to stop.

FUEL TANK FI LLER CAP
AIR INTAKE SCREEN
PREPARING TRACTOR FOR OPERATION The operating
speed and throttle setting will be de- termined
by the implement being used as well as in-
dividual conditions encountered in the work
being performed. The Operator's Manual supplied
with each implement should be consulted for
detailed operating instructions. It is
important to become thoroughly familiar with
the handling characteristics of your tractor
and with the instructions contained in this
manual BEFORE attempting to use your tractor for
the various opera- tions which it can perform.
Drive the tractor without operating an implement
until you become familiar with its controls.

1. Check the engine crankcase oil level by
removing the filler plug (See Figure 10). If oil
is below top of slot in filler neck, add oil
of proper grade as outlined on Page 10.
4. If an implement is to be used, check it for
proper installation, securely tightened
fasteners and good operating condition. Refer to
the Implement Manual for operating and
maintenance instructions.
WEIGHT FOR ADDED TRACTION Liquid fill can be used
in the rear tires to add weight to the tractor.
The tires are equipped with a special inflation
valve so they can be filled two-thirds full of
liquid to provide additional weight. If the
anticipated temperatures are above freezing,
clean water can be used. For temperatures
below freezing, a calcium chloride solution
should be used. After the tires have been
two-thirds filled with liquid, compressed air is
used to inflate them to the pressure recommended
on page 12 . Weight added when tires are properly
filled will approximately be 35 to 40 lbs. per
wheel.
OIL FILLER PLUG
OIL DRAI N PLUG
When checking inflation pressure of liquid-filled
tires, turn the wheel so the valve stem is at the
top to avoid getting fluid into the tire gauge.
Figure 0
IMPORTANT If calcium chloride solution is used in
the wide base (tubeless) rear tires, over an
extended period of time, it is recommended that
inner tubes be used. Such tubes can be obtained
from most well-stocked tire stores.
2. Check the fuel supply and fill tank if
necessary. Open the fuel shutoff valve. (See
Figure 11).
3. Check tires for proper inflation pressure, see
page 12.

  • Cold Weather Starting (See Figure 6)
  • NOT E
  • ALWAYS DEPRESS THE CLUTCH-BRAKE PEDAL AND SET THE
PARKING BRAKE SO AS TO DE- C LUT CH THE
TRANSMISSION WHEN STARTING IN C OLD WEATHER.
  • Set the choke to full on that is, close it by
pushing the choke -throttle lever forward as
far as it will go. In very cold weather, it may
be necessary to run the engine a minute or
two with the choke partly closed.
  • After starting, the choke -throttle lever
can be pulled back gradually as the engine
warms up. If the engine falters as the lever is
pulled back, push lever slightly forward until
the engine picks up speed again. After the
Medium lever position is obtained and engine
allowed to warm up properly, the tractor is ready
    to operate.
  1. Check fuel supply and shutoff valve, as
previously directed (omit this step if already
    checked).
  2. Put gear shift lever in "NEUTRAL".
  • NOTE
  • BE SURE TRACTOR GEAR SHIFT Is IN NEU- TRAL AND
PARKING BRAKE IS "ON" BEFORE STARTING ENGINE
  • Pull clutch control lever rearward and latch
in rear notch to disengage drive belt.
  • Depress elutch - brake pedal and set the parking
    brake.
  • Adjust choke-throttle lever according to the
air temperature as directed in the following
para- graphs headed "Warm Weather Starting" and
    "Cold Weather Starting".
  • On the Electric Start Tractor, insert
ignition key and turn it clockwise as far as
possible un- til engine starts. Release
clockwise pressure as soon as engine starts.
DO NOT OPERATE STARTER FOR MORE THAN 30 SEC
    ONDS AT A
  • TIME. If the engine does not start within
    this
  • time, turn the key to the "Off" position and wait
for a minute or two before trying again. On the
Manual Start T raetor, insert ignition key and
turn to "On" position. Step off of the traetor
and position yourself on the left side. Grasp
starter handle, pull slowly and firmly to start
engine. After pulling starter handle, allow cord
to rewànd slowly - D Not allow it to "snap" back
    into starter.
  • After the engine starts, move the choke
-throt- tle lever to the Medium position
    for a proper warm-up period.

To Stop Engine Turn the ignition key to the "OFF"
position. Set the parking brake. Leave the gear
shift lever in neutral position and disengage the
power drive by pulling the control lever
rearward and latch in rear notch. Re- move the
ignition key if the tractor is to be left
unattended. Turn off the fuel shutoflvalve if the
tractor will not be operated for an extended
period.
OPERATING ELECTRIC AND MANUAL START TRACTORS 1.
Push the clutch-brake pedal down fully to
dis - engage the cluteh and set the brake.
  1. Start the tractor engine and advance the choke-
    throttle lever slightly.
  2. Maintaining pedal position as directed in
Step 1, move lever to shift lane and move
sideways with light force on lever and
slowly release pedal until selected speed in
forward or reverse position is obtained. Refer
to Figure 12 or the decal on the cover
area, (See Figure 3) which diagrams the
various forward or reverse posi- tions.

Warm Weather Starting (See Figure 6)
IMPORTANT When changing speeds , forward or
reverse, the tractor must be STOPPED. If you are
going to drive in "HIGH" go from standing stop
into motion in selected drive pos ition only.
You cannot shift while the tractor is
moving. Attempting to do so will clash the
gears, causing undue wear and possible
damage.
Set the choke to full on that is, close it by
pushing the choke -throttle lever forward as far
as it will go. Experience may show that less
choking is necessary due to variations in
temperature, grade of fuel, etc. Little or no
choking is needed when the warm engine is re
-started. Knowledge of tke proper setting under
varying conditions will come with experience.
