The engine is mounted in reversed position in the
trac- tor frame so that the hot air flow from the
radiator and engine is directed away from the
operator. The transmission is a hydrostatic
drive with a two-speed range transaxle
assembly. The hydrostatic transmission is foot
pedal controlled. The two speed range gearbox is
shifted by a control lever. The hydraulic lift
system consists of a single spool con- trol valve
mounted on top of the transaxle housing directly
under the operator's seat. The steering system is
a gear type and is operated directly off the

TRANSFER TUBE PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE
LUBRICATION
Pressurized oil from the pump flows in a passage
in the block to the area of the banjo bolt and
the main oil gallery which extends the length of
the block. A relief valve located in the side of
the block extends into the oil gallery. S-22033
Pressurized oil in the main oil gallery flows
through passages to the four main bearings.
Drilled passages in the crankshaft main journals
connect to the connect- ing rod journals. The
remaining oil flows through the banjo bolt and
external tube to the front of the cylinder head.
From there the oil flows through a passage in the
head to the No. 1 rocker shaft pedestal. Oil
flows up- ward through the pedestal, through a
roll pin that ex- tends into the rocker shah. Oil
seepage between the rocker arms and shaft
lubricates the rocker arms, valve tappets, push
rods and tappets.
The engine is a three cylinder, liquid cooled,
overhead valve diesel producing 14 h.p. at 3200
rpm.
The engine is identified by a code number E643
Cast in the side of the engine block.
Four main bearings support the crankshaft. The
front main bearing is a one piece bushing pressed
into the front of the engine block. The remaining
bearings are two piece liners and are held in
place by removable bear- ing supports.
The roll pin serves to hold the rocker shaft in a
fixed location and restricts oil flow to maintain
adequate oil pressure in the main oil gallery.
Oil flow is from the pump pick-up tube into a
drilled passage in the block at the lower side of
the oil pump.
The cylinder walls, pistons and piston pins are
splash lubricated from the crankshaft.

pedestal. Lubrication oil flows through the roll
pin which also serves as a restrictor to maintain
adequate oil pressure in the main oil gallery.
ROCKEFISHAFT ASSEMBLY
CYLtNDER HEAD ASSE/v\BLY
Disassembly of the rocker shaft assembly requires
removing the bolts and pulling the roll pin out
to separate the No. 1 pedestal from the rocker
shaft. Then slide the components off of the
shaft. VALVE TAPPET
The cylinder head and valves include the intake
and ex- haust valves, rocker shaft, cylinder
head, pre- combustion chamber and related
components.
After removing the head, the tappets may be
removed from the top of the cylinder block
without removing the camshaft.
ROCKER ARMS RETAINING BQLT

ex- ceeds 0.008 in. t0.2 mm) replace the arm or
shaft as required.
CAMSHAFT ASSEMBLY
lnspect the rocker arm and valve stem contact
surfaces for excess wear.
A full length rocker shaft is utilized on this
engine. The rocker arms and springs are retained
on the shaft with bolts.
Replace worn parts as needed.
A roll pin in the No. 1 rocker shaft pedestal
extends in- to the rocker shaft. This roll pin
positions the rocker shaft lubrication hole with
the oil passage in the

using a 30 or 60 stone as required to narrow
the seat and raise or lower the seat face as may
be needed.
OUT-OF-SQUARE
After grinding the valves, inspect the valve
margin to ensure it is at least 0.020 in. (0.5
mm) width.
After refacing the valve seat and valve face,
measure the recess of the valve in the head. It
must be between 0.026 in. and 0.071 in. (0.65-1.8
mm).

HEAD GASKET IDENTIFICATION The engine
compression ratio is controlled by the use of
different thickness head gaskets. To select the
prop- er gasket, measure the protrusion of each
piston above the top of the block at
top-dead-center. Use the piston with the greatest
protrusion as the standard. Select the gasket
according to the measured distance as
shown. PRE-COMBUSTION CHAMBER COMPONENTS The
pre-combustion chamber is located in the head
directly above the cylinder. Ignition starts in
the pre-chamber. Burning gases pass through
drilled ports in the chamber to create a swirl-
ing action in the cylinder combustion area for
more com- plete combustion of the air fuel
mixture.

the gasket and is the last four digits of the
part number. Install the gasket with the code
number facing up.
The glow plug extends through the side of the
head in- to the area above the pre-combustion
chamber. When energized, the glow plug element
heats this area and the incoming fuel for
improved starting when the engine is cold.
The head gaskets are also identified by notches
cut in- to the outer edge as follows
The pre-combustion chamber is a press fit and
should not be removed unless required. Always
replace with new parts due to the press fit
requirement to hold in place.

ENGINE OIL PUMP
A GEROTOR type engine oil pump is located in the
front of the engine block.
OJL PUMP PORT HEAD
The pump is removed from the engine by removing
the snap ring from the pump shaft and sliding
each part off the shaft.
The oil pump is an integral part of the idler
gear and is driven by the crankshaft gear.
The oil pump is mounted directly to a port block
that is pressed into the engine block. The oil
passages in the port block must align with the
passages in the engine block. If removed, use
tool no. 11063-A to correctly in- stall the port
block and align the oil passages.
lnspect the pump rotors and cover for wear
replacing any part found damaged.
Check the rotor tip clearance and replace if the
clearance exceeds 0.010 (0.25 mm).

between the rotor and pump cover. The rotor cover
movement against the spring pressure should be
between 0.004 and 0.006 (0.1 and 0.15 mm).
Adjust the clearance by adding or deleting shims.
Engine oil pressure is monitored by means of a
indicator light on the instrument panel. The
indicator light should be ON when key is ON
and the engine is not run- ning, and go OFF
when the engine is started. The indicator light
circuit is grounded through a pressure operated
switch located in the cylinder head above the
fuel injection pump.
15-22083 ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SENDER SWITCH
The switch will close and make contact with
ground if the engine oil pressure drops below
2.8-5.5 psi. (0.2-0.4 kg/cm2) and the warning
light will illuminate.
