Opezattan 7 FI LLING THE BARRELS WI TH PTO
PUMP The PTO pump can be used to fill the barrel
or barrels. Disconnect the suction hose from the
PTO pump. Obtain one length of 3/4
-inch hose, not over 50 teet long, with a female
hose connection on one end. Place the strainer
from ttie suction hose on the other end. If dest
red an additional st raine r may be obtainea
from your John Deere dealer. Con- nect the female
hose connection to the PTO pump whe re the
suction hose was removed. Place the end of the
hose with the strainer into the water res ervoi r
or supply. Disconnect the discharge hose trom
the PTO pump. Obtain a 3/4 -inch hose of sutti
- cient length to reach the barrel. The 3/4-inch
home must have a female hose connection on one
end. Connect the female hose connection to the
P TO pump where the discharge hose was removed.
Place the other end ot the hose in the
barrel. Start the PTO pump.
ATTACHING SPRAYER TO THE TRACTOR STAY
CHAIN CENTER LINK
PUMP
DRAFT LINK
Attach the sprayer to the center link and the two
draft links of the tractor. Install the pump on
the tractor PTO shaft by placing the key be -
tween the splines and tightening the set sc rews
against the key.
Arrows on pump ports indicate proper rotation.
NOTE the hoses for filling the baize I do itot
have lo be chemical reststant. SWITCHING BARRELS-
20A APR AY ER ONLY When the spray solution supply
is exhausted in one barrel, switch the pump
suction hose with the strainer and the
agitation hose to the other drum. C A U T I ON
The agitation hose must be In the some barrel as
the suction hose, since the bypassed liquid
agitates the spray solution In the barrel.
Hook the stay chain to a fixed point on the
tractor so the pump will be in a horisontal
position.
Raise the sp raye r to the desired height.
NOTE The nozz les should be 8 to 20 inches
above the surface to be s prole d. Level the
sprayer fore-and -aft by adjusting the length of
the tractor center link. Level the sprayer lat-
erally by adjusting the right -hand draft link.

DOOM SUPPORT ROPE
DOOH tUPP0RT ROPE
OUTER DOOM
Lower the booms to the oper- ating height.
Adjust the rope stops on the boom support ropes
so the booms are level and so the outer booms
are in line with the eente r boom section. Adjust
the height of the booms so there is
approximately 18 inches of c learance between the
noszle tips and the surface to be sprayed.
The boom frame may be adjusted up or down on the
barrel trame, or the whole sprayer may be raised
or lowe red with the t raetor hydraulic Gystem.
If the tractor hyd rauli c system is used to
adjust to the op- erating height, level the
sprayer fore-and-aft with the center link ot the
hitch after the desi red operating height has
been reached.
CONTROLS
LEFT-HAND CONTROL HANDLE
RIGH T HAND CONTROL HANDLE
When the right -hand handle is torward and
horisontal and the left- hand handle vertical,
the right-hand side of the sprayer is in
operation. When the lett -hand handle is for-
ward and hori zontal and the right- hand handle
vertical, the left -hand side of the sprayer is
in operation. Placing both handles in a
vertical position shuts the sprayer off. Gauge
No. 1 shows the operating pressure. Gauge No. 2
shows the agitation pressure. Regulate the
operating pressure (gauge No. 1) by turning the
pressure regulator handle clockwise to in-
crease operating pressure and coun- terclockwise
to decrease operating pressure.

THR0 TTL thC VALVE GAUGE N0. 1
PRESSURE REGULATOR HANDLE
, '

,
The spray delivery to either half of the
sprayer is regulated by the control handles.
When both handles are forward and horizontal,
both sides ot the sprayer are in operation.
12
Opezofirm 9 NOZZLE CHECK VA LVES The nozzle cheek
valves may be used in conjunction with the
regular nozzles. When the spraying system is shut
off at the PTO, check valves will completely
stop the flow of chemical at the nozzles. If the
spraying system is shut off at the boom
controls, check valves will reduce the flow at
the nozzles to a drip.
Regulate the agitation pressure (gauge No. 2) by
turning the throttling valve handle
counterclockwise to in- crease the agitation
pressure and clockwise to decrease the agitation
pressure. NOTE The agitation pressure should
never be leos than 30 put. CAUTION N e v e r
regulate the pressure unless the sprayer Is in
operation. Do not operate the spray- er at
pressures so high thot the maximum pressure gouge
capacity wlll be exceeded when the flow to the
booms is shut off. The hoses furnished with the
high pressure attachments are rated at 400
psi. All other hoses furnished on this sprayer
are rated at 50 psi. Pres- sure in excess of J 50
psi may be used for only a short period of time.
Do not exceed 150 psi for normal
operation. ADJUSTING NOZZLES

NOZZLES
The row-crop drops are used on row-c rops to
assure accurate place - ment of the spray in the
row. If the nozzles located directly over the
rows are not to be used, insert the blank dtsks
provided with the row-crop drops in place of the
noszle tips. The swivel noszles may be turned
upward to spray the underside of the leaf or
downward to direct the spray to the ground
between the rows. When the row-crop arops are
used, adjust the Room height and the angle of
the swivel nozsles on the drops so that the
desired spray pattern can be obtained.
The noszles may be adjusted for different row
spacings. Loosen nut ' 'A, and slide the nozzle
clamp on the boom to the desired spacing and
tighten nut 'A.

IMPORTANT A series of studies have recently been
conducted by the Departments of Agronomy and
Agricultural Engineering at some of our leading
universities to determine variations tn spray
volume or distribution pattern due to nozsle tlp
wear. The results of the studies indicate
that both volume and pattern may vary
considerably - particularly when wet- table
powders are used. We suggest that the sprayer
be calibrated daily and that operating pressures
be gradually lowered to compensate for wear
until euch time that nozzle ttps require
replacement. Stainless steel tips are much more
resistant to wear than brass ttps.

20" Nozzle Spacing)
To Use Chart Run tractor at throttle setting
which will be used when operating in the field.
Operate sprayer and collect sample from one
nozzle for one minute. Measure the sample in
ounces (1 quart 3? ounces). To flnd the
application rate in gallons per acre, read
measured ounces on left-hand side ot chart,
fotlow line over to the aesired speed line ana
read gallons per acre on bottom line of chart. If
desired application rate is not obtained on first
check, adjust the pressure and repeat check. To
calibrate for higher speeds than indicated on
chart, collect sample for one-half minute and
read gallons per acre for one-half o desired
speed. Example For 8 mph collect sample tor
one-half minute and read chart to 4 mph line.
