Safety Suggestions
  • The safety of the operator was one of the prime
considerations in the minds of John
  • Deere engineers when this cultivator was designed
  • You can make your farm a safer place lo live and
work if you observe the safety suggestions given.
Sludy these suggestions carefully and insist that
they be followed by those working with you and
    for you.
  • For tractor stability and operator safety,
tractor front end weiqhts may be required. See
    page 5.
  • Do not adjust the cultivator while it is in
    motion.
  • Never permit any person other than the operator
    on the tractor.
  • Never ride or permit olhers to ride on the
    cultiva- tor.
  • Drive at speeds slow enough to insure your
safety. Reduce speed before turning quickly or
applying brakes. Drive slowly over hills and
rough ground to avoid tractor tipping over.
  • Always keep tractor in gear when driving down
    steep grades with cultivator raised.
  • Choose a level place and remain stationary when
raising and lowering the outriggers to maintain
    stabil- ity

Prolonged exposure to loud noise can cause im-
pairment or loss of hearing. Hearing protective
devices (such as ear muffs or plugs) can
effectively protect against loud noises. When
you are exposed to noise which is objection- able
or uncomfortable, il is recommended that you wear
a suitable hearing protective device. When
transporting the Cultivator on a road or high-
way at night or during the day, use accessory
lights and devices for aoequate warning to
operators of other vehicles. In this regard,
Check local govern- mental regulations. Various
safety lights and devices are available rom your
John Deere dealer. Always support cultivator
frame and rigs on stands or blocks before working
under or around cultivator. Escaping hydraulic
fluid under pressure can have sufficient force to
penetrate the skin, causing serious personal
injury. Before disconnecting lines, be sure to
relieve all pressure. Before applying pressure to
the system, be sure all connections are tight and
that lines. pipes, and hoses are not damaged.
Fluid es- caping from a very small hole can be
almost invisi- ble. Use a piece of cardboard or
wood, rather than hands, to search for suspected
leaks. If injured by escaping fluid, see a
doctor at once. Serious infection or reaction can
develop if proper medical treatment is not
administered immediately. If spray can paint is
used be careful when discard- ing empty can. Do
not incinerate or puncture can. Fi n all y ,
reme m ber this A n accident is u su ally
caused by someone s carelessness, neglect, or
over- sight.

bolts be kept tight at all times. Loose bolts can
cause breakage of parts. Check the tightness of
bolts periodically and keep them tightened to the
torques specified above. All bolts used in the
field cultivator are "high strength" bo Its , an

IMPORTANT Before installing the remote cyl-
inder (A), be sure to install the two restrictors
(B) provided in the ports of the cylinder as
shown. Attach hoses (C) to restrictors and
tighten se- curely. Side ports must point to
rear, with hoses routed as shown.
12
Operation 7
Attaching Cylinder Attach the remote hydraulic
cylinder to the lift arms on cultivator, routing
hoses downward or toward the rear as shown above.
Removing Trapped Air From Cylinder All trapped
air must be removed after the hoses are connected
to the restrictors. Remove the trapped air from
the cylinder by placing cylinder on the transport
arm of the tractor with the hose end up. Plug the
ends of the hoses into the tractor hydraulic
outlets. Start the tractor engine and move the
cylinder operating lever back and forth seven or
eight times. This will bleed the a'ir from the
cylinder.
NOTE Remote cylinder hoses musi be inserted in
proper tractor outlets to obtain indicated
operation. Insert the coupler with a groove in
the tractor outlet with a notch. If the hose
couplers are installed correctly the outriggers
will raise when the control lever is pulled to
the rear and lower when the lever is pushed
forward. See your tractor operator's manual.
IMPORTANT Check lifting function by raising and
lowering outriggers slowly to make certain
cylinder rod is fully retracted when outriggers
are fully raised and hinge stops are contacted
firmly when cylinder rod is fully extended. If
necessary, change position of shims on lift frame
straps. (See page 21.) ROCKSHAFT CONTROL AND
