  • The fertilizer drive is automatically thrown out
of gear when the cul- tivator is raised. The
drive is automatically engaged again when
cultivator is lowered. The fertilizer drive can
be disengaged by removing the fertilizer drive
chains. These chains can be removed without
taking them apart by merely holding the chain
    idlers out of the way.
  • Regulation of Quantity The quantity of
fertilizer distributed is regu- lated by opening
or closing the feed gate by means of the nuts on
the adjusting rod attached to the feed gate. This
control is very sensitive so that very little
movement of the feed gate will make a
considerable change in the amount of fertilizer
applied. Changing drive chains to different
sprockets will also affect fertilizer feed. Best
results can be obtained by using small sprocket
on tractor axle and large sprocket on drill
shaft. If this does not distribute enough
fertilizer, a faster sprocket combination will be
    necessary.
  • IMPORTANT
  • Clean fertilizer hopper daily to insure
satisfactory operation and long life. When
through fertilizing for the season, clean
thoroughly and, if possible, paint inside of
    fertilizer cans.
  • L U B R IC A T I O N
  • . Gear case A, Figure 8, should be half filled
with a good grade of pressure gun grease.
  • Oil chain idler bearings on both sides of
    planter.
  • Apply grease with pressure gun through grease
fittings on bottom plate bearing of each hopper.

ASSEM BLY
When installing side dressing attachment on Model
B Tractors having cast-iron frames and Serial
Numbers 136,662 to 166,999, it is necessary to
use spacers P990B with two 5/8 x 2-3/4 machine
bolts, between tractor frame and hopper Support
bracket. These spacers (Bundle No. 2969B) must
be ordered extra.

ASSEMBLY
1. Bolt the hopper supports to tractor. (These
are right and left.) For Models "B," "A," "G,"
"50," and 6 0 Tractors, attach as at "C,"
Figure 2. To attach to the Model "MT" and "40"
Trapc- tors, see Figure 3. (These are right
and left.) When installing on a Model "G"
Tractor, use the machine bolts that are shipped
with the drive sprockets and chains.

  • Attach hopper support brace to cultivator frame
and hopper sup- port, see "D," Figure 2, for
    Models "B," "A," "G," "50," and "60" Tractors.
  • Bolt gear case and drive assembly to hopper
    supports. (See "A," Figure 5.)

  • Attach sprockets

sprockets on the outer ends of the drill shafts.
This is the neces- sary position for Models "MT,"
"40," "B," and S 0 Tractors in order to get
proper alignment of the drive chains. If mounting
on Models "A, "60," or "G" Tractors, remove the
cotter keys, leave the flat washers on drill
shafts, and pin the sprockets on drill shafts
using hole indicated in Figure 4. S. Attach
throw-out bracket as shown at "H," Pigure 2.

  1. Install clutch throw-out rod "B," Figure S. The
throw-out casting on the throw-out rod must be
slipped over end of drill shaft before other end
of rod is attached. Attach end of tiirow-out
rod to bracket "C," Figure S. Adjust length of
throw-out rod when cultivator is in lifted posi-
tion, so that drive parts are thrown out of gear.
  2. Install drive sprockets on tractor axles. Be sure
to line them up with the sprockets on planter
drill shaft. These sprockets are held in
place with two hollow-head set screws. Use
    special wrench furnished.
  3. Install drive chains from axle sprockets to
    sprockets on planter drill

swing- ing the braces around and installing on
opposite sides of the tractor, the fertilizer
spouts will be to the inside for narrow row
widths. 10. Attach fertilizer hopper bottom
casting to drill shaft bearing bracket as shown
at B, Figure 6. It is necessary to slip the
fertilizer hopper bottom arme over the
bearing points at an angle as shown in Figure
