Operating Safely Read, understand and foIIow aII
instructions in this attachment manuaI, the
machine operators manuaI and safety signs on
equipment before starting. Use proper front
baIIast. Remove baIIast when the materiaI
coIIection system is removed. Hopper extends
beyond machine. Be aware of surrounding objects
when making short turns. Do not operate materiaI
coIIection system unIess entire grass catcher is
fastened in pIace with hopper secureIy
instaIIed. Do not Iet anyone ride on the mower or
materiaI coIIection system. Riders are subject to
injury such as being struck by foreign objects or
being thrown off. Riders may obstruct the
operators view and cause a coIIision.
WARNING To avoid injury from thrown objects. Keep
bystanders away. Shut off engine before opening
hopper top. Keep chutes in pIace.
CAUTION BaIIast per operators manuaI. Bags, if
equipped, are subject to wear and deterioration.
Check bag frequentIy. RepIace as necessary. Use
John Deere bag or equivaIent.
Crush Hazard
  • Before hopper removal or installation
  • Stop mower.
  • Disengage mower or PTO.
  • Stop engine and remove key.
  • Wait for engine and aII moving parts to stop

PREPARING VEHICLE
  • Never assume that chiIdren wiII remain where you
    Iast saw them. Stay aIert to the presence of
    chiIdren. Turn the machine off if a chiId enters
    the work area.
  • Check aII hardware at frequent intervaIs to be
    sure the equipment is in safe working condition.
  • Do not modify machine or safety devices.
    Unauthorized modifications to the machine or
    attachment may impair its function and safety.
  • Do not Iet chiIdren or an untrained person
    operate the machine.
  • Do not carry or Iet chiIdren ride on any
    attachment or machine even with the attachment
    off. Do not tow chiIdren in a cart or traiIer.

Preparing Vehicle Checking Tire Pressure Check
tire pressure of machine before instaIIing
hopper. See your machine operators manuaI.
  • Avoid Injury From Thrown Objects
  • When operating the vehicIe with the MCS
    attachment instaIIed make sure aII chutes and
    hoses are secureIy in pIace. Keep hopper cIosed
    or MCS in operating position.

Installing Proper Mower Blades
  • Stop the engine and wait for aII moving parts to
    stop before removing or Iifting any attachment
    components.
  • IMPORTANT Avoid damage! When replacing mower
    blades, always use genuine John Deere Service
    Parts.
  • For best performance, always use correct mower
    blade for job being performed.
  • Always follow safety and service instructions in
    the machine operator's manual when changing mower
    blades.
  • Avoid injury from impeIIer bIades and thrown
    objects. Remove attachment when operating vehicIe
    in side discharge mode. Make sure defIector
    shieId is in pIace on mower deck if attachment is
    removed.
  • Avoid Injury From Rotating Blades
  • Keep hands and feet away from rotating bIades and
    bIower assembIy when engine is running.

For maximum performance from your materiaI
coIIection system (MCS), instaII the correct
mower bIades for your appIication
Install Front Blower Mounting Bracket for all
Side Discharge Decks
  • Stop engine and wait for moving parts to stop
    before servicing components.
  • Do not operate MCS or bIower unIess aII
    attachment components are in pIace and Iatched.
  • Practice Safe Maintenance
  • OnIy quaIified, trained aduIts shouId service
    this machine.
  • Understand service procedure before doing work.
    Keep area cIean and dry.
  • Do not operate the engine in a confined space
    where dangerous carbon monoxide fumes can coIIect.
  • CAUTION Avoid injury! Rotating blades are
    dangerous.
  • Before adjusting or servicing mower
  • Disconnect spark plug wire(s) or battery negative
    (-) cable to prevent engine from starting
    accidently.
  • Always wear gloves when handling mower blades or
    working near blades.
  • Never Iubricate, service or adjust the machine or
    attachment whiIe it is moving. Keep safety
    devices in pIace and in working condition. Keep
    hardware tight.

  • Keep hands, feet, cIothing, jeweIry, and Iong
    hair away from any moving parts, to prevent them
    from getting caught.
  • Lower any attachment compIeteIy to the ground or
    to an existing attachment mechanicaI stop before
    servicing the attachment. Disengage aII power and
    stop the engine. Lock park brake and remove the
    key. Let machine cooI.
  • Disconnect battery or remove spark pIug wire (for
    gasoIine engines) before making any repairs.
  • Before servicing machine or attachment, carefuIIy
    reIease pressure from any components with stored
    energy, such as hydrauIic components and springs.

mounting hoIes (A) for front bracket.
  • ReIease hydrauIic pressure by Iowering attachment
    or cutting units to the ground or to a mechanicaI
    stop and move hydrauIic controI Ievers.
  • SecureIy support any machine or attachment
    eIements that must be raised for service work.
    Use jack stands or Iock service Iatches to
    support components when needed.
  • Never run engine unIess park brake is Iocked.
  • Keep aII parts in good condition and properIy
    instaIIed. Fix damage immediateIy. RepIace worn
    or broken parts. RepIace aII worn or damaged
    safety and instruction decaIs.

    sided. Put side with correct deck size caIIout

    carriage boIts (O) and M8 Iocknuts.

10. lnstaII bIower front pivot pin (Q) and secure
with Iynch pin (R) in front mounting bracket.
Swing bIower into position, and aIign rear
mounting bracket to instaII reIease handIe (S)
and M8x30 carriage boIt (T).

  • lf modeI is equipped with a rear bumper, remove
    two M12 Iocknuts (A), and remove rear bumper (B).
  • Remove two studs (C) and additionaI nut on rear
    of frame.
  1. Tighten hardware on rear mounting bracket.
  2. Connect primary drive beIt from bIower to drive
    sheave on deck.

Installing Hopper Assembly
IMPORTANT Avoid damage! Allowing the hopper to
contact abrasive surfaces can cause scratching.
1. Park machine safeIy. (See Parking SafeIy in
the SAFETY section.)

thick pIates (G) and M12x90 carriage boIts (H)
and M12 Iocknuts. Leave hardware Ioose untiI
upper tube is instaIIed.

machine. Make sure frame bracket (A) is aIigned
with bagger frame mount at rear of machine.
3. Lift assembIy and sIide Iower support bar (B)
onto hooks (C) in the hopper brackets.
