jNTRODUCTION
This manual provides operation, maintenance,
assembly and parts identification for your new
loader.
If, at any time, you have a service problem with
your loader, or need new parts, contact your
local Ford Tractor and Equipment Dealer.
The Ford 7412 Loader with Quick Attach Feature
is designed for use on Ford 7710, 8210, TW-5 and
TW-15 TWO and FWD tractors.
Your dealer will need the loader model number and
serial number to give you prompt efficient
service.
Successful operation and long life of the loader
depends. of course, on proper operation and the
care given it. Please read this manual carefully
and follow the instructions. Correct operation
and maintenance will save much time and expense.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS The following precautions are
suggested to help prevent accidents.
  • Allow for thp loader length when making turns.
  • Stop the loader arms gradually when lowering or
    lifting.
  • Use caution when handling loose or shiftable
    loads.
  • Carry bucket at a low position during transport
    for better visibility.
  • When parking or servicing, lower bucket to
    ground, stop engine and set park brakes before
    leaving the tractor seat.
  • Operate the loader controls only when properly
    seated at the controls.
  • Using front end loaders without special
    attachments for handling large heavy objects,
    such as large round or rectangular bales. logs
    and oil drums, is NOT RECOMMENDED.

  • G Danger of the object rolling or sliding
    down the loader arms onto the operator.

    clear the ground when moving.
  • 0 Ballasting the tractor rear to compensate for
    the load.
  • G Never lifting large objects with equipment
  • that does not have an anti-rollback device.
  • A careful operator is the best operator. Most
    accidents can be avoided by observing certain
    preca utions. Read and take the following
    precautions before operating the tractor and this
    loader to help prevent accidents. Equipment
    should be operated only by those who are
    responsible and instructed to do so.
  • GENERAL
  • Read the Operator's Manual carefully before using
    the tractor or loader. Lack of operating
    knowledge can lead to accidents.
  • Replace damaged or illegible safety decals. See
    page 35 for required decals.
  • Operate tractor and loader only from the
    operator's seat.
  • THE TRACTOR
  • Use an approved roll bar and seat belt for safe
    operation. Overturning a tractor without a
    rollbar can result in death or injury. If your
    tractor is not equipped with a rollbar and seat
    belt, see your Tractor Dealer.
  • Equip your tractor with FOPS (Falling Object
    Protective Structure) before installing or
    operating the loader.
  • Always use the seat belt when the rollbar is
    installed. Do not use the seat belt if the
    rollbar is removed from the tractor.
  • Add recommended wheel ballast and/or rear weight
    as recommended in owner's manual to provide good
    stability.
  • Move the wheels to the tractor manufacturer's
    widest recommended settings to iñcrease
    stability.
  • Move and turn the tractor at low speeds.
  • THE LOADER
  • Improper use of a loader can cause serious injury
    or
  • death.
  • Do not lift or carry anybody on the loader or in
    the bucket or attachment.
  • Never allow anyone to get under the loader
    bucket or reach through the lift arms when the
    bucket is raised.
  • Do not walk or work under a raised loader or
    bucket or attachment unless it is securely
    blocked or held in position.
  • Avoid overhead wires and obstacles when loader
    is raised. Contacting electric lines can
    cause electrocution.

OPERATION
INSTALL COUNTERBALANCE WARNING Before operating
a tractor with a loader, add sufficient
counterweight so that a minimum of 25 of the
total weight of tractor and loader is on the rear
wheels when bucket contains rated load and is in
maximum forward position. Sufficient weight can
be added to the tractor by filling the rear
wheels with liquid ballast, installing wheel
weights or 3-point hitch counterweight. If
3-point hitch counterweights are used, they
should be carried as low as possible at all times
to maximize stability. The effective
counterbalance weight of mounted rear equipment
is determined by multiplying the actual weight of
equipment by 1.50. EXAMPLE Equipment weiphinp
800 pounds, attached to the rear of the tractor.
multiplied by l. 50. equals 1200 pounds of
effective counterbalance weight. After adding the
recommended counterweight, weigh the tractor at
the rear axle to be sure the counterbalance is
adequate. With the bucket empty and in the carry
position, the minimum tractor rear axle weight
should be 10,0O0lbs. for the TW-5 TW-15 TWO
FWD tractors 7,800 lbs. for the 8210 TWO FWD
tractors and 7200 lbs. for the 7710 TWD FWD
series Ford tractors.
PREPARINGTRACTOR PR1ORTO OPERATION WARNING Read
the operator's manuals before inspecting,
servicing or operating the loader and tractor.
  • INSPECTION
  • Thoroughly inspect the fully assembled loader and
    tractor prior to operation.
  • Check all hardware to be sure that it has been
    properly installed and tightened. Retighten all
    hardware after the first 10 hours of operation.
  • Check tire pressure. Refer to the tractor
    operator's manual for recommended pressures.
  • Review tractor lubrication schedule and
    consult MAINTENANCE section of this manual to be
    certain that all pivot points have been properly
    lubricated.
  1. Use the method described in MAINTENANCE section
    of this manual to check all hose and
    tubing connections to insure that no leaks are
    present.
  2. Be sure the FOPS (Falling Object Protective
    Structure) is installed.

OPERATING LOADER The loader should be operated
with the tractor engine
Ease both levers of tractor remote valve up to
lift and rollback the bucket.

are dangerous, and may cause bucket spillage
and unnecessary strain on the tractor and loader.
ROLLBACK
LIFT
When operating in temperatures below 3OF., run
the tractor engine below 1200 rpm until the oil
temperature exceeds 3OF.
The following text and illustrations offer
suggested loader and tractor operating techniques.
  • FILLING THE BUCKET
  • Approach and enter the pile with a level bucket.

WARNING Operating the loader on a hillside is
dangerous. Extreme care is recommended to
avoid overturn.

NOTE Do not be concerned if the bucket is not
completely filled during each pass. Maximum
productivity is determined by the amount of
material loeded in a piven period of time. time
is lost if two or more attempts are made la fill
the bucket on each pass.
NOT THIS
When transporting the load, keep the bucket as
low as possible to avoid tipping, in case a wheel
drops in a rut.
LIFTING THE LOAD
NOT THIS
When lift ing the load, keep the bucket
positioned to avoid spillage.
DO THIS
Lift the bucket high enough to clear the side of
the vehicle. Move the tractor in as close to the
side of the vehicle as possible, then dump the
bucket.
CAUTION Do not attempt to Iift bucket loads in
excess of the loader capacity. CAR RYING THE
LOAD
Position the bucket just below the level of the
tractor hood for maxim um stability and
visibility, whether the bucket is loaded or empty.
G LOWERING THE BUCKET
After the bucket is dumped, back away from t he
vehicle while lowering and rolling back the
bucket.
ROLLBACK
LOWER
Use extreme care when operating the loader on a
slope, keep the bucket as low as possible. This
keeps the bucket and tractor center of gravity
low and will provide maxim um tractor stability.

OPERATION
OPER ATING WITH FLOAT CONTROL During hard
surface operation, keep the bucket level and put
the lift control in the float position to permit
the bucket to float on the working surface. If
hydraulic down pressure is exerted on the bucket
it will wear faster than normal.
FLOAT
Sidecutting is a good technique for cutting down
a big pile.
The float will also prevent the mixing of surface
material with stockpile material. The float
position will reduce the chance of surface
gouging when removing snow or other material, or
when working with a blade.
FLOAT
If the pile sides are too high and liable to
cause cave-in, use the loader to break down the
sides until a slot can be cut over the top.
SURFACE MATERIAL
LOADING FROM A BANK Choose a forward gear that
provides sufficient ground speed for loading.
Another method for large dirt piles is to build a
ramp approach to the pile.

Exercise caution when undercutting high banks.
Dirt slides can be dangerous. Load from as low as
possible for maximum efficiency. Loader lift and
break-away capacity diminish as loading height is
increased.
It's important to keep the bucket level when
approaching a bank or pile. This will help
prevent gouging the work area.

OPERATION
G PEELING AND SCRAPING
Use a slight bucket angle, travel forward, and
hold the lift control forward to start the cut.
Make a short, 5 to 8 foot, angle cut hand
break-out cleanly.
Backgrade occasionally with a loaded bucket to
keep the working surface free of ruts and holes.
Also, hold the lift control forward so the full
weight of the bucket is scraping the ground. Use
the heel of the bucket.
BACKFILLING DO THIS ! With the bucket level,
start a cut at the notch approximately 2 deep.
Hold the depth by feathering the bucket control
to adjust the cutting lip up or down. When the
front tires enter the notch, adjust the lift
cylinder to maintain proper depth.
3rd Cut
4th Cut, etc.
Make additional passes until the desired depth is
reached. During each pass. only use .the bucket
control while at working depth. ThiS will allow
you to concentrate on controlling the bucket
angle to maintain a precise cut.
Approach the pile with a flat bucket.
NOT THIS !
G LOADING LOW TRUCKS OR SPREADERS FROM A PILE
Poor methods actually move no more dirt and make
it more difficult to hold a level grade.
Do not use the bucket in the dumped
position for bulldozing. This method, shown
above, will impose severe shock loadings on the
dump linkage, the bucket cylinder, and the
tractor.
For faster loading, minimize the angle of turn
and length of run between pile and spreader.

Leave dirt in the bucket because dumping on each
pass wastes time.
Pile dirt on the high side for easier backfilling
on a slope.
DITCH
0 HANDLING LARGE HEAVY OBJECTS
WARNING I. Using front end larders for hendiinp
larpe heavy objects such as larpe round or
rectangular bales, logs and oil drams is not
recommended.
SOIL PILE
Operate at right angles to the ditch. Take as big
a bite as the tractor can handle without lugging
down.

MAINTENANCE
Regular maintenance of the loader and hydraulic
system will insure maximum loader efficiency and
long life. WARNING NEVER perform maintenance
beneath a raised loader unless loader is properly
supported to prevent accidental lowering. DAILY
MAINTENANCE When operating the loader with the
tractor hydraulic system, check the level of
hydraulic oil in the tractor before starting each
day's operation. If necessary, add Ford 134
hydraulic oil as recommended in your tractor
operator's manual. After every eight hours of
operation, lubricate the twelve grease fittings.
One at the end of each lift boom arm and one at
the rod and base end of each lift and bucket
cylinder. Repair hydraulic oil leaks promptly to
avoid loss of oil and serious personal injury
from escaping oil.
Replace hoses immediately if they are severely
damaged by a cut or scrapé, extruded at the
fittings. or leaking. After every ten hours of
operation, check all hardware and tighten where
required.
AIR CLEANER MAINTENANCE The loader side frame
channel restricts access to the tractor engine
air cleaner. Whenever possible, service the air
cleaner before mounting loader. If it ever
becomes necessary to service the air cleaner when
the loader is mounted on the tractor, dismount
the loader first, following the instructions
for dismounting loader on page 31. Replace
tractor air cleaner according to the instructions
in the tractor operator's manual.
WAR N ING Escaping hydraulic flttid ttnder
presstzre can penetrate the skin causing serious
injury. G DO NOT use your hand io check for
leafs. Use a piece of cardboard or peper to
search for leafs. K Stop engine and relieve
pressure before connecting or disconnecting
lines. M Tighten all connections before starting
engine or pressurizing lines. If any fluid is
injected into the skin, obtain medical attention
immediately or gangrene may result.

MAINTENANCE
TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE REMEDY
1. Loader slow or will not lift and/or dump. Hydraulic oil too heavy. Oil filter or y-strainer plugged. Hydraulic pump worn. Oil line restricted or leaking. Control valve does not shift properly. Air in hydraulic system. Cylinder leaks. Faulty relief valve. Change to proper oil. Clean or replace filter. Repair or replace pump. Check all hoses and tubes for leaks, damage or restrictions. Replace damaged or restricted hoses or tube lines. lnspect, clean, repair or replace valve. Cycle lift cylinders and bucket cylinders several times to free system of air. Replace seals. Clean or replace relief valve.
2. Loader chatters or vibrates when raising or lowering. Air leak in pump inlet line. Air in hydraulic system. Oil level too low. Check, tighten or replace inlet line. Cycle lift cylinders and bucket cylinders. Add oil as required.
3. Boom delay at start of self-level or unstable self-level. 1. Air in system. 1. Cycle lift cylinders and bucket cylinders several times to free system of air.
4. Loaded bucket dumps or uncurls when control valve spool is in neutral. 1. Unloading spool is Ieakin9. 1. Remove and inspect unloading spool for damage.
5. Insufficient self-level. Set screw is out of adjustment. Spring on unloading spool is broken. Flow divider spool is stuck towards adjustment pin side. Readjust set screw to achieve proper flow split. Remove plug and replace unloading spool spring. Remove flow divider spool and check for damage.
6. Bucket dumps faster than boom raises. Too much self-level. Set screw is out of adjustment. Flow divider spool is stuck towards port B. Flow divider spool is installed wrong. Readjust set screw to achieve proper flow split. Remove flow divider spool and inspect for damage. Remove spool and install with internal orifice toward port B.
7. With bucket dumped boom is slow in starting to raise. 1. Dampening orifice in unloading spool is plugged. 1. Remove unloading spool and clean dampening orifice.
8. Bucket does not move in self-level. Set screw is screwed in all the way. Dampening orifice in unloading spool is plugged. Ports A and B are plumbed backwards. Readjust set screw to achieve proper flow split. Remove unloading spool and clean dampening orifice. Reverse hoses on ports A and B of self-level valve.
9. Bucket curls in self-level. 1. Ports C and D are plumbed backwards. 1. Reverse hoses on ports C and D of self-level valve.
OO. External leakage. 1. Damaged seals. 1. Remove leaking component and replace seals.
01. Pump noisy. Inlet line restricted or leaking. Oil level too low. Pump worn or damaged. Check for air leaks, restrictions or collapsed hose. Tighten or replace hose. Clean filter if necessary. Add oil as required. Repair or replace pump.
12. Bucket tines bend or break. 1. Only a few tines were under load. 1. Be sure three or more tines are under load.
13. Excessive wear on bucket cutting edge. 1. Bucket is riding on cutting edge insteacj of wear pads. 1. Use boom FLOAT position or bucket level indicator to ensure bucket rides on wear pads.
