45Stefan Georgiev was born on June 24, 1954 in the
Town of Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria. In 1974 he
graduates from Arts school in the Town of
Kazanlak. He then continues his education in St
Cyril and St Methodius University of Veliko
Tarnovo in the Faculty of fine arts. He works
mostly in oil on canvas and mixed media painting,
illustration and plastic arts. Also, he works
with watercolours, pastels and acrylic. His
paintings are represented in many galleries and
private collections in Netherlands, Germany,
Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Greece, Bulgaria,
Turkey, Russia, USA, Canada and Hong Kong. He's a
member of the Artist's Union in Greece - EETE His
journey as an artist began in 1979. He works in
the field of painting and illustration. The
artist presented his paintings in many
independent and group exhibitions in Bulgaria,
Germany and Turkey. From 2000 until 2014 he lived
and worked in Athens, Greece, where he
participated in a series of independent
exhibitions and took part in group exhibitions by
the Artists Union of Greece- EETE. Stefan also
works as an illustrator of children's books for
some of the most significant publishing companies
in Greece. 28 children's books have been printed
containing his illustrations. In the middle of
2014 he relocated to Manchester, UK, where he
currently lives and works. The artist uses mixed
media to create his paintings. The variety of
materials such an acrylic paste, gold and silver
metal foil, collage, acrylic and oil paint,
enrich and enhance the image of canvas. The
surface of the canvas is processed with spatula
until the desired effect is achieved after which
it is layered with more contrast and gentle
colours, which depend on the theme of the
painting. The compositions are mostly figurative,
the details are realistic, but stylized and
decorative. The diversity of topics is combined
with rich colours, texture and variety of herbal
and natural elements. These make the paintings
interesting, close to the human spirituality and
easy to assimilate.
