8 Mongolia - the land of the eternal blue
sky, is known for its open spaces and grandiose
landscape. It is also a country of deeply
spiritual people. Buddhism played an important
role in shaping Mongolian history and culture. In
the "land of nomads", Buddhist monasteries were
often the only permanent structures and one of
the few cultural archives of art. At the end of
the 19th century, there were more than 1,200
monasteries in Mongolia. Monks made up about a
third of the male population. In the 1930s, most
of the Buddhist monuments were violently
destroyed. Their restoration began only after the
democratic revolution in 1990. Today, Buddhism is
the most widespread religion in Mongolia. More
than 60 of Mongolians practice it. Some more
important monasteries have also made it to the
UNESCO World Heritage List.
Mongolia, el país del eterno cielo azul,
es conocida por sus espacios abiertos y sus
grandiosos paisajes. También es un país de gente
profundamente espiritual. El budismo desempeñó un
papel importante en la configuración de la
historia y la cultura de Mongolia. En el "país de
los nómadas", los monasterios budistas eran a
menudo las únicas estructuras permanentes y uno
de los pocos archivos culturales de arte. A
finales del siglo XIX, había más de 1.200
monasterios en Mongolia. Los monjes constituían
aproximadamente un tercio de la población
masculina. En la década de 1930, la mayoría de
los monumentos budistas fueron destruidos
violentamente. Su restauración comenzó solo
después de la revolución democrática de 1990. Hoy
en día, el budismo es la religión más extendida
en Mongolia. Más del 60 de los mongoles lo
practican. Algunos monasterios más importantes
también han sido incluidos en la Lista del
Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO.
Mongolsko - krajina vecne modrej oblohy,
je známa svojimi otvorenými priestormi a
grandióznou krajinou. Je to aj krajina hlboko
duchovných ludí. Budhizmus zohral dôležitú úlohu
pri formovaní mongolskej histórie a kultúry. V
krajine nomádov boli budhistické kláštory casto
jedinými stálymi stavbami a jednými z mála
kultúrnych archívov umenia. Koncom 19. storocia
bolo v Mongolsku viac ako 1200 kláštorov. Asi
tretinu mužskej populácie tvorili mnísi. V 30.
rokoch 20. storocia došlo k násilnej likvidácii
väcšiny budhistických pamiatok. Ich obnova zacala
až po demokratickej revolúcii v roku 1990.
Budhizmus je dnes najrozšírenejším náboženstvom v
Mongolsku. Praktizuje ho viac ako 60 Mongolov.
Niektoré významnejšie kláštory sa dostali aj na
zoznam svetového dedicstva UNESCO.
