What is PowerBI? Microsoft Power BI is a powerful
tool that helps businesses turn data into
easy-to-understand reports and visualizations. It
allows users to connect to various data sources,
like Excel files, DB etc, and create interactive
dashboards that show important information at a
glance. PowerBI consists of various components
like PowerBI Desktop (to create reports
dashboards), PowerBI service (wherein built
reports dashboards are uploaded), PowerBI mobile
application.
PowerBI Pricing Option PowerBI Pro is a per-user
license that allows user to create, share and
collaborate. Then there is PowerBI premium per
user which is a more advanced version which also
allows advanced features including access to
large model sizes and more frequent refresh rates.
Below mentioned are the older rates and newer
rates along with percentage increases.

from the new financial year i.e. 1st April 2025.
Any new users who is onboarded after 1st April
will be on the new pricing. Older customers will
continue to be billed on the older pricing
option, but from April they will also be billed
on the newer costing option.

• Impact
• Though PowerBI price increase after many years,
  but the price increase is steep. This is
  especially going to impact organizations who have
  embedded PowerBI inside their product and are
  providing embedded analytics to a much larger
  audience. Since they have huge number of users
  viewing the reports/dashboards, the number of
  licenses procured by them are huge. Thus
  resulting in a substantial increase in the cost
  (though with zero additional value coming out of
  it).
• Alternative Options
• There is still 5-6 months left and that can give
  organizations sufficient time to explore
  alternatives and plan migration strategies. While
  exploring alternative options it is important to
  consider below
• Flat costing model which can allow you to scale
  up the business without additional cost
• Learning curve New tool should not force you to
  learn any new language. Like Looker needs you to
  learn LookML, PowerBI forces to learn MDX etc.
• Support of embedding, white labelling and Single
  Sign On
• Self service interface to create reports
  dashboards
• Flexible deployment options (on-prem, cloud etc)
• Preferrable would be a completely browser based
  tools (unlike PowerBI desktop, Tableau
• desktop etc). This can give the advantage that
  you can always allow your end customers also to
  create their own analysis as well
• Support of pixel perfect document kind of canned
  reports also. Most of the BI tools are only
  support dashboards/visualizations but not really
  paginated canned reports
