Title: Affordable Mini IVF Treatment in India | Advanced Fertility Solutions

1
Mini IVF Treatment in India
Mini-IVF (or minimal stimulation IVF) is an
infertility treatment that follows the same
overall procedures as standard IVF but uses a
lower dose of medications at the beginning of the
process to stimulate the woman's ovaries. This
results in fewer eggs being produced than
standard IVF. Mini-IVF is attractive to some
women because they are less likely to have a poor
response to the stimulation medications used,
including ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome
(OHSS). While the goal of standard IVF is to
produce 10-15 eggs for retrieval, minimal
stimulation IVF produces fewer eggs. Because of
fewer eggs, fewer embryos will develop for
implantation. This statistically makes min-IVF
less effective than standard IVF, which
typically produces many more embryos.
Overview Minimal stimulation IVF, also called
mini IVF or gentle IVF, uses lower doses of
fertility medication than traditional in vitro
fertilization (IVF) during the egg stimulation
process and sometimes at the time of egg
retrieval.
2
Symptoms Mini-IVF is an option for many women
who are considering alternatives to IVF to treat
infertility because it is safe and affordable.
But it is not suitable for all women. Mini-IVF is
particularly beneficial for patients who meet
the following criteria.
  • Women who have reduced ovarian reserve
  • Couples concerned about using strong stimulation
    drugs
  • Couples looking for a lower-cost option
  • Couples requiring timely treatment

Causes
Minimal stimulation IVF is used for many
different reasons and preferences, however one of
its main advantages is the lower amount of
fertility medication needed during the procedure,
which is linked to its lower cost. But because
mini-IVF also has a lower chance of success,
patients who undergo it need to discuss it
thoroughly with their fertility specialist. One
type of mini-IVF is natural IVF. In natural IVF
no medication is used to activate egg production.
At the end of the cycle, a small amount of
medication is given to control the timing of the
woman's ovulation. So the woman produces an egg
naturally during her cycle and the doctor
controls the timing of the egg extraction to
maximize the chances of the egg fertilizing.
Since only 1-2 eggs are removed, natural IVF has
an even lower pregnancy rate than minimal
stimulation IVF.
When to seek medical attention? You may
considered mini IVF if
3
If you are under 43 years of age and have been
trying to get pregnant through regular
unprotected sex for 2 years. Couples concerned
about the use of strong stimulation drugs Have
undergone 12 cycles of artificial insemination,
of which at least 6 cycles have used a method
called intrauterine insemination (IUI).
  • Which specialist must be consulted?
  • Fertility specialist
  • Embryologist
  • Gyaenacologist
  • Obstetrics-GYN

Treatment Pocedure Each minimal stimulation IVF
cycle follows the same process as a traditional
IVF cycle. Patients take oral contraceptives
until ovulation induction begins. Instead of
using injectable medications to promote
ovulation, the patient will begin taking low-dose
oral medications. During the ovulation
induction phase, the patient will undergo
monitoring and ultrasounds to confirm that the
follicles within the ovaries are maturing into
eggs. Patients who opt for mini-IVF will still
need to take injections, but they will need to
take them less frequently and at a lower dose
than patients who undergo regular IVF.
Injections of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)
and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG),
sometimes referred to as trigger shots, will be
administered prior to egg retrieval. Once the
eggs are retrieved, they will be fertilized by
the partner's or donor's sperm, developed into
embryos in the laboratory, and transferred to the
uterus.

Outcome Recovery The recovery time depends on
patient, procedure severity Success
Rate Success rate of IVF treatment for live
birth 32 for women under 34 years of age. 26
for women aged 34 to 36. 18 for women aged 37
to 39.
  • Decision Tree
  • Many patients choose mini-IVF for its lower cost,
but there are a number of other benefits as well
  • Fewer clinic visits, ultrasounds and blood tests
  • Lower drug doses
  • Lower chance of drug reactions, including OHSS
  • Lower chance of freezing leftover embryos
  • Less need for anesthesia to extract eggs
  • Lower chance of multiple pregnancies (twins or
    more).

Mini-IVF may be an especially good option for a
woman at risk of developing OHSS. The study also
found that the rate of twins was very low with
mini-IVF, however, the study did a single embryo
transfer on mini- IVF patients and a double
embryo transfer on traditional IVF patients.
Clearly, if you are transferring two embryos
instead of one, the rate of twins will be
higher. Further studies need to be done to
compare the total cost per live birth for
mini-IVF and traditional IVF and to determine if
there is truly a difference in the likelihood of
multiple children between the two procedures.
5
Prevention and Risk Factors Since fewer eggs are
retrieved in mini-IVF, the probability of a
successful pregnancy is also reduced. The 10-15
eggs obtained in standard IVF provide backups if
eggs are damaged in the process or if the eggs
are assessed as poor candidates for
fertilization. With mini-IVF, the doctor has
fewer eggs to work with, meaning there is less
chance of developing viable embryos from these
eggs through laboratory fertilization. For
this reason, sometimes couples undergo multiple
rounds of mini-IVF before becoming pregnant. This
can increase the length of time it takes to
become pregnant. It can also negate any cost
savings of choosing the less expensive IVF
option. Another potential drawback to consider
is the possibility of multiple pregnancies, which
means becoming pregnant with twins or more.
Although this is less likely with mini-IVF than
with standard IVF in which more than one embryo
may implant, it is still a possibility. Multiple
pregnancies put the baby and mother at risk of
premature delivery. Premature delivery can lead
to complications for both the mother and the baby.
Post-Treatment If you don't conceive after a few
cycles, the costs can actually be higher in the
long run. With regular IVF, if one cycle doesn't
work, you'll usually have some embryos left to
freeze. These can be used during a frozen embryo
transfer (FET). With mini-IVF, you're less likely
to have any embryos left for future cycles.
6
The risk of having no eggs to fertilize is also
higher when using mini-IVF. Not every egg
produced will survive the IVF process. For
example, with traditional IVF, if 10 eggs are
removed, it's possible that only five will be
fertilized. Of those, only three may become
healthy embryos to transfer. If you start with
only two or three eggs, and not all of them are
fertilized or survive long enough to the embryo
stage to be transferred, you've lost the whole
cycle. Mini-IVF is also not suitable if you need
a large number of eggs. If you are freezing your
eggs, or an egg donor is donating eggs, you will
need to use more fertility drugs to produce a
larger number of eggs.
