The Bucegi Mountains are located in central
Romania, south of the city Brasov.The Bucegi is
believed to be the Dacian holy mountain Kogainon,
on which the God Zalmoxis resided in a cave. At a
higher elevation is the Bucegi Plateau, the wind
and rain have turned the rocks into spectacular
figures such as the Sphinx and Babele.

Valea Prahovei is the valley where the Prahova
river makes its way between the Bucegi and the
Baiu Mountains, in the Carpathian Mountains,
Romania. It is a tourist region, situated about
100 km north of the capital city of Bucharest.

country, about 166 km north of Bucharest. It is
surrounded by the Southern Carpathians and is

Ecaterina's gate
The old building of the redoubt, built in the
eighteenth century, originally served as a
theater, concert hall and balls. Nominated as a
historic monument and part of the historical
center of Brasov, the institute hosts several
cultural events, including the Philharmonic
concerts, exhibitions, music concerts and modern
plays.

The Black Tower was built in 1494 on a rock on
Starja Hill, near the Blacksmiths' bastion. It
has a square shape and it is 9 m high. In 1599
the tower was destroyed by lightning. So, it's
got its name from its walls being blackened by
the fire caused by the lightning. Today, it is no
longer black.

Poiana Brasov is the most popular Romanian ski
resort and after the 2010s modernization, the ski
area has expanded from 50 hectares to 80. In
2013, it hosted figure skating, alpine skiing and
speed skating in the European Youth Olympic
Winter Festival.

Sinaia (population 14,636), is a town and a
mountain resort in Prahova County. The town was
named after Sinaia Monastery, around which it was
built the monastery in turn is named after the
Biblical Mount Sinai. King Carol I of Romania
built his summer home, Peles Castle, near the
town.

Sinaia The Sinaia Monastery, was founded by
Prince Mihail Cantacuzino in 1695 and named after
the great Sinai Monastery on Mount Sinai.
Situated in the Prahova Valley, the monastery
gave its name to the nearby town of Sinaia.

The monastery consists of two courtyards
surrounded by low buildings. In the centre of
each courtyard there is a small church built in
the Byzantine style. "Biserica Veche" (The Old
Church)dates from 1695, while the more recent
"Biserica Mare" (The Great Church) was built in
1846.

Pele? Castle

Pele? Castle is a Neo-Renaissance castle in the
Carpathian Mountains, near Sinaia, in Prahova
County, on an existing medieval route linking
Transylvania and Wallachia, Pele? Castle was
built between 1873 and 1914 by King Carol I of
Romania as his summer home. Its inauguration was
held in 1883.

Pelisor Castle is a castle in Sinaia, part of the
same complex as the larger castle of Peles. It
was built in 18991903 by order of King Carol I,
as the residence for his nephew and heir, the
future King Ferdinand (son of Carol's brother
Leopold von Hohenzollern) and Ferdinand's consort
Queen Marie.
