Nursing Ventures
The purpose of UVA Nursing Ventures is to
stimulate the development of cutting edge nursing
initiatives for healthcare practice and
education. Nursing Ventures promotes the
development of nursing entrepreneurs and
enterprising health care projects that have the
potential to improve health care delivery,
nursing practice and education. Nursing Ventures
is presently comprised of two initiatives, the
Health Care Product Evaluation Center, that
conducts evaluations of health care products by
expert practicing clinicians for health care
product companies for a fee, and the Nursing
Ventures Entrepreneurial Resource Center, that
provides advice and consultation to nurses with
entrepreneurial potential to assist them to
become successful nursing entrepreneurs.

• Employs nurses to participate in focus groups
  for qualitative evaluation of products
• Conducts small studies on nursing units
• Neuro ICU, MICU, IV team have helped, and soon
  PICU and OR will start a study.
• Teaches courses to the staff of a device company

  Administration and Legal Counsels Office
• Payment for participation in mock ups goes to
  individual paychecks
• Payment for studies on nursing units go to staff
  development budgets of that unit
