Title: Duke Modules Final QA

1
Duke Modules Final QA
  • Jack Fowler
  • Duke University
  • Spain Workshop - 2003

2
Final Mechanical Completion Steps
Stringing HV and Tension Test All wires draw less than 10 uA at 1.7 kV in room air Tension 128 to 170 Hz Complete through M2.36 and 3.30. 800 wires left to string
Ground Wire Solder to Tension plate and epoxy to shell Complete through M2.34 and 3.30
Sealing Modules Seal all eyelets and fill all shell holes with epoxy Complete through M2.33
Dimension Test Module fits length and stay clear fixtures. Module Weight Completed as modules are shipped to Hampton University
3
Final QA Testing
HV Testing /Current prior to Signal Test Ar-CO2 and Air All wires hold 1600 V Currents typically 200nA Complete thru M2.30 and 3.30
Ionization Leak Test Current spec lt 1 mbar /bar/min Old Spec lt 0.1 mbar/bar/min Complete thru M2.25 and 3.28
Purging Volume Leak Test lt 200 mbar/bar/min Complete thru M2.25 and 3.28
Signal Test Ar-CO2 at 1550 V Complete through 2.30

Mechanical and HV Discrepancies
  • Capacitor barrel leaks
  • 4 modules
  • Cooling sleeve tears
  • 3 modules
  • Shell extending beyond boundaries
  • 17 modules
  • HV Trips (to neighbor groups)
  • 10 modules
  • Shorted HV Groups to each other
  • 4 modules (but none to Shell!!!)

8
Wire/Straw Discrepancies
  • Wire shorted to straw
  • Wire impossible to string
  • Wire left inside straw
  • Straw leaks
  • Noisy wires at Signal Test
  • Socket/Eyelet not connected
  • Wire anomaly from Gain Map

9
Wire/Straw Status
  • DEAD straw
  • Cannot hold HV
  • Leak
  • Impossible to string
  • REMOVED but can be restrung and tested at CERN
    154
  • AS IS but will be retested or restrung at CERN
    154

Summary of Modules
  • All modules are functional
  • No major defects on any of the modules
  • 0.56 of the straws have any issues, as is,
removed and dead (107 out of 19071)
  • 0.13 are Dead leaving DUKE (25 out of 19071)
  • All will be complete and shipped to Hampton in
    2003!
