Formation Flying a technological
challenge covering several domains
  • at system level
  • distributed architecture (space and ground)
  • autonomy
  • distributed FDIR
  • system verification and validation
  • at satellite level
  • relative metrology
  • RF and optical
  • accurate control
  • relative position and attitude
  • flight dynamics
  • actuators
  • Inter Satellite Link
  • software architecture
  • at instrument level
  • optical nulling technologies
  • interferometric laboratoy test bench
  • nulling interferometer for Pegase, Darwin
  • laser optical test equipments for LISA
  • gamma-ray diffractive lens
  • detectors IR, X and Gamma ray
  • cooling
  • innovative future instrumentation concepts

3
Main goals for CNES RT studies
To master formation flying key technologies to be
able to perform ground demonstrations as early as
2006 and in-flight demonstrations in 2010/2012
  • from 2004 to end 2005
  • during phases 0 for Astronomy (ASPICS MAX PEGASE
    SIMBOL-X)
  • to master generic FF key technologies
  • from 2006
  • after CPS (Scientific Program Committee)
    recommendations
  • to concentrate on FF technologies useful for
    SIMBOL-X
  • to prepare PEGASE
  • to work on MAX payload
