Title: Total Transformation

The Heart of the Matter
1
  • Total Transformation
  • Romans121-2

2
Roman2 121-2 NCV
  • 1 So brothers, since God has shown us great
mercy, I beg you to offer your lives as a living
sacrifice to him. Your offering must be only for
God and pleasing to him. This is the spiritual
    way for you to worship.
  • 2 Do not change yourselves to be like the
people of this world. But be changed within by a
new way of thinking. Then you will be able to
decide what God wants for you. And you will be
able to know what is good and pleasing to God and
    what is perfect.

Vision Defined
  • Vision is mans dominant sense, he learns more
through it than through any other sense, even the
blind depend on it vicariously. George Wald.
  • Vision is the most important steering and
directing control system of the seeing being.
  • Over 80 of our learning is mediated through our
eyes, indicating the important role our vision
    plays in our daily activities.

Act 81
  • 1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And
there arose on that day a great persecution
against the church which was in Jerusalem and
they were all scattered abroad throughout the
regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the
    apostles.
  • 3 But Saul laid waste the church, entering into
every house, and dragging men and women committed
    them to prison.

20
Belief in ones abilities and faculties
  • 84 They therefore that were scattered abroad,
    went about preaching the word.
  • 91 But Saul, yet breathing threatening and
slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went
    unto the high priest,
  • 92 and asked of him letters to Damascus unto the
synagogues, that if he found any that were of the
Way, whether men or women, he might bring them
    bound to Jerusalem.

21
A product of his learning and experience
  • Acts 223 Then Paul said I am a Jew, born in
Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city,
under Gamaliel. I was thoroughly trained in the
law of our fathers and was as zealous for God as
any of you here today. I persecuted the followers
of this Way to their death, arresting both men
and women and throwing them into prison. I even
obtained letters for the high priest and all the
Council to bring these people to prison and to
    punish them.

22
He knew the laws of God but did not know the
intent of God
  • Romans 10 1-4 Brothers, my hearts desire and
prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may
    be saved.
  • 2 For I can testify about them that they are
zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on
    knowledge.
  • 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that
comes from God and sought to establish their
own, they did not submit to Gods righteousness.

23
  • Romans 104 Christ is the end of the law so that
there may be righteousness for everyone who
    believes.
  • The law was given to establish that man cannot
save himself apart from the grace of God. The
law points to Jesus as savior.
  • Eph 28 It is by grace that you have been saved,
through faith- and this not from yourselves. It
is a gift from Good- 9 not by works, so that no
    one can boast.

24
A personal encounter with Jesus Acts 93-5
  • 3 And as he journeyed, it came to pass that he
drew nigh unto Damascus and suddenly there shone
round about him a light out of heaven
  • 4 and he fell upon the earth, and heard a voice
saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou
    me?
  • 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said,
I am Jesus whom thou persecutest

25
Saul saw with his eyes using the filter of his
own knowledge
  • 2 Do not change yourselves to be like the
people of this world. But be changed within by a
new way of thinking. Then you will be able to
decide what God wants for you. And you will be
able to know what is good and pleasing to God and
    what is perfect.
  • He was thinking like everybody else during that
time and made following the law first and
foremost. He needed a personal encounter with
    Christ to receive an adjustment.

26
Physically Blinded Acts 96-9
  • 6 but rise, and enter into the city, and it shall
be told thee what thou must do.
  • 7 And the men that journeyed with him stood
speechless, hearing the voice, but beholding no
    man.
  • 8 And Saul arose from the earth and when his
eyes were opened, he saw nothing and they led
him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.
  • 9 And he was three days without sight, and did
    neither eat nor drink.

27
Scales represent the blinders that prevented him
from seeing the truth
  • 17 And Ananias departed, and entered into the
house and laying his hands on him said, Brother
Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, who appeared unto
thee in the way which thou camest, hath sent me,
that thou mayest receive thy sight, and be filled
    with the Holy Spirit.
  • 18 And straightway there fell from his eyes as it
were scales, and he received his sight and he
    arose and was baptized

28
Amazing transformation Acts 921
  • 21 And all that heard him were amazed, and said,
Is not this he that in Jerusalem made havoc of
them that called on this name? and he had come
hither for this intent, that he might bring them
    bound before the chief priests.

29
Definition of Terms
  • Conform. Having a superficial resemblance.
  • Transformed. Refers to an inward and genuine
    resemblance.
  • Paul is looking for a transformation at the
deepest level that is infinitely more significant
than the conformity to the world.
  • Renewing of the mind is the means by which this
    transformation takes place

30
Conclusion
  • As you can see with our exercises at the
beginning, the human mind is a powerful thing.
  • A single sense like sight has the interplay of
the whole mind to give meaning and substance to
    stimuli received.
  • The mind can ignore as in the letter Fs, things
    that it deems unimportant.
  • The mind can make arrange letters that are
misspelled to make sense of a jumbled word.

31
Conclusion
  • The mind can also appreciate things that are not
there as if they are real. Chalk paintings
  • The mind can also make you see things that are
not there based on past information. Lamp.

32
Conclusion
  • Without the input of God or an encounter with
God, we usually perceive and interact to our day
to day experiences based on your archived
experiences as filtered by our minds. These are
    responses based on past learning.
  • A personal encounter with God through Jesus
Christ opens up a biblically based interpretation
and corresponding responses to these day to day
    experiences.
  • These are Faith based responses.
  • Without knowing these precepts (Gods word), you
will not be able to decide what God wants for
you(Make a Judgement that is faith based).

33
Conclusion
  • And you will not be able to know what is good and
pleasing to God and what is perfect as Rom 122
indicates. (Real Transformation that Paul is
    talking about)

34
Conclusion
  • There will be no renewing of the mind, without
knowing God and our savior Jesus.
  • Hence, you will continue to have a superficial
resemblance to what God really wants you to be.
Romans 103 Since they did not know the
righteousness that comes from God and sought to
establish their own, they did not submit to Gods
    righteousness.
