• Chorus
• Man does amazing things with his brute strength
  and intelligence
• Man moves either towards good or evil, never in
  between.
• Simplistic view of the nature of man. There is no
  room for gray area
• Is it too simplistic?
• How will it be proven wrong in this play?

Scene 2

• Recap
• Sentry, Creon, Antigone, and Ismene
• Sentry finds Antigone burying Polynieces and
  brings her to Creon, who confronts her and
  Ismene.
• Both are sentenced to death.

• The Sandstorm What could it represent?
• Antigone appears in middle of sandstorm
• Antigone crying over her dead brother
• Ismene crying for her dead sister

• The First Debate (Creon v. Antigone)
• Gods Law v. Mans Law Which is infallible and
  which is newly born
• Antigone Allegiance to the dead and to the laws
  of God are of utmost importance, even unto death.
• Creon It is an insult to honor both the loyal
  and the traitor equally. The dead would be angry
  if he were to do so.
• Also, very much a power struggle between a man
  and a woman.
• Creon sums up the debate when he says he will not
  be ruled by a woman.
• Patriarchal? Misogynistic? How?
