Development of Jumping

• Infants are capable of the jumping action when
  they are about 2 years old
• Progressions follow
• Down from one foot to the other
• Up from two feet to two feet
• Down from two feet to two feet
• Run and jump from one to the other

5 Basic Jump Variations

• Two feet to one foot
• Two feet to two feet
• One foot to two feet
• One foot to the same foot (hop)
• One foot to the other (leap)

3 Phases To Jumping Landing

• Take-off
• Actions of the body to get us into the air
• Flight
• Actions of the body in the air
• Landing
• Actions of the body to establish ground contact

Skill Level Progressions

• Jumping for fun
• explorations for height and distance
• jumping a rope
• absorbing on landing
• More vigorous take-offs
