El Prado
  • Renowned as being the largest art gallery in the
    world.
  • It houses more than 8,600 paintings, of which the
    exhibit less than 2,000 because of lack of space.
  • The present day gallery comes from the royal
    collection of the old Trinidad Museum.

  • Its history began during the reign of Charles
    III, when he tried to create a single art
    collection under one roof.
  • But it was not until the reign of Fernando VII
    when the Royal Museum of Painting and Sculpture
    was created, on 19th November 1819.
  • The kings death caused inheritance problems and
    endangered the unity of the collection.
  • disappearance of the monarchy in Spain the museum
    became national property and became known as the
    Prado National Museum

Collection at El Prado
  • The Italian school has among others, works by
    Andrea Mantenga, Sandro Botticelli, Rafael,
    Andrea del Sarto, Correggio, Lorenzo Lotte,
    Tintoretto, Verones, Tiepolo and above all,
    Tiziano.
  • The Spanish school is represented with works by
    our grand masters Bartolomé Bermejo, Pedro
    Berruguete, Luis de Morales, El Greco, Juan B.
    Maino, José de Ribera, Alonso Cano, Caudio
    Coello, Zurbarán, Velázquez, Murillo, Luis
    Meléndez,Goya ..... and a long list of great
    artists.

Guggenheim Museum Bilbao
  • one of the most important ingredients in the plan
    to redevelop the city of Bilbao.
  • The ambitious plan for bringing the Guggenheim
    Museum to Bilbao got under way in February 1991
  • In December 1991, after months of negotiations
    signed the Development and Programming Services
    Agreement for the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao at the
    Provincial Council's headquarters in Bilbao

  • On October 3, 1997, with the building finished
    and completely fitted out, a fortnight of
    inaugural events began that ended when the Museum
    opened its doors to the general public for the
    first time on October 19. Less than one year
    later, the Basque Museum had already received
    more than 1,300, 000 visitors

Dalí Theatre-Museum
  • Inaugurated in 1974, the museum was built upon
    the remains of the former Figueres theatre.
  • It contains the broadest range of works spanning
    the artistic career of Salvador Dalí (1904-1989)
  • The Dalí Theatre-Museum has to be seen as a
    whole, as the great work of Salvador Dalí, for
    everything in it was conceived and designed by
    the artist in order to offer visitors a real
    experience of getting inside his captivating and
    unique world

    with Fried Bacon (1941), Poetry of America The

    Basket of Bread Rather Death than Shame (1945),
    Leda Atòmica (1949) and Galatea of the Spheres
    (1952).
