Biography
  • Currently Professor and Director of the School of
    Library and Information Science at San José State
    University (since 2005).
  • 1992-2005 Professor and Director of the School
    of Library, Archival and Information Studies at
    the University of British Columbia.
  • 1985-1992 Director of Program Services with the
    Vancouver School Board.
  • Also worked as a teacher (1969-1972),
    teacher-librarian (1969-1970), secondary school
    department head (1970-1972), educational media
    consultant (1972-1976), coordinator of library
    media services (1976-1984), and school principal
    (1989-1991).

  • Has written more than 100 books, chapters,
    articles and research papers.
  • Founding editor of Teacher-Librarian and Resource
    Links.
  • Past president of Canadian School Library
    Association, Canadian Library Association,
    American Association of School Librarians, and
    Council for Canadian Learning Resources.
  • Past executive director of the International
    Association of School Librarianship and councilor
    with the American Library Association.
  • Active member of more than 30 professional
    associations.
