Common Scientific Name

• The common name of the coconut tree is simply the
  coconut tree. The scientific name is Cocos
  Nucifera.

Characteristics

• The coconut trees trunk is not woody but pulpy.
• They can reach 50-80 feet in hight.
• The fruit forms at the base of the tree and their
  can be as many as 50 coconuts on one tree.
• The yellowish-green leaves are called fronds
  are 15-17 feet long.
• Coconut fruits are round, with a hard medium
  brown hairy surface. There is also 3 round
  depressions on one end of the fruit.

Habitat and Regions

• The coconut tree is located in tropical areas, in
  the Bahamas, and along tropical beaches.

Uses to Humans

• Coconut trees help humans because their coir
  fiber makes brushes, cloth rope, and more.
• The oil is made into soaps, face creams, food
  oils etc.
• The lumber makes roofs.
• The fronds can make roofs as well.

Interesting Facts

• When the inside of a coconut gets hard, it looks
  like ivory, and it is used to make buttons and
  billiard balls.
• The seeds taste like almonds.
• The flowers smell like manure.
