Stevens Tenotomy Scissors
  • These small scissors are used in the same
circumstances as the iris scissors. However,
they are not often seen in straight form.
Straight irises may be used for suture in these
cases. The difference between iris and tenotomy
scissors is the way the tenotomy scissors have a
hipped tip that gives way to a narrow sharp
pointed tip. Irises have a smooth taper along
the full length of the blades. Cutting category.

4
Iris Scissors
  • These scissors come in straight and curved
varieties. They are used for fine sutures
(straight) and tissues (curved) in small
    superficial wounds. Cutting category.

5
Facelift Scissors
  • These long scissors are used for cutting and
undermining the skin of the face during a
facelift. They are sharp on their anterior
surface as well as their lateral edges making
undermining as deep as the nose easy.

6
Liposuction Cannulae
  • These cannulae are inserted under the skin
through a tiny incision. The distal end is
connected to a high powered suction machine. The
surgeon slides them back and forth quickly
beneath the skin and suctions out excess adipose
    tissue. Miscellaneous.

7
Infusion Cannula
  • This cannula is used to infuse hemostatic fluids
into the subcuticular tissue before liposuction.
This helps to reduce bleeding during the case.

8
Nerve Stimulator
  • This battery operated devise is used in
procedures where nerves are difficult to identify
such as the neck. The needle end is placed into
muscle tissue and the blunt end is touched to the
tissue that looks like nerve. If it is nerve,
the muscle will twitch. It is disposable.

9
Alm Retractor
  • This small self retaining retractor is used in
small incisions. It is expanded in the incision
by twisting the screw mechanism at the end.

10
Finger Tournicot
  • This band is put onto a finger that needs to be
repaired, and rolled down to the base. It is
tight and restricts blood flow to the operative
field. It saves the patient from having to wear
the sometimes dangerous tourniquet on their arm.
It can not be left on for longer than an hour so
time must be noted when it is applied, and the
surgeon should be notified as the one hour mark
approaches. They may also be used on toes. They
    are disposable.

11
Vessel Loops
  • These soft pliable strands come in a variety of
colors that are only significant in that it helps
to differentiate which loop holds which
structure. They are looped under a small vessel
or nerve to hold them safely out of the visual
field. They are soft enough to avoid damage to
    delicate structures. They are disposable.

12
Eyes
13
Eye Cautery
  • This is a low voltage battery operated cautery
pencil with a very fine tip for use under the
    microscope. It is disposable.

14
Eye Knife Blades
  • The knife blades to be used during any eye
procedure will include any of those pictured
here, according to physician preference. These
are all to be used on the globe of the eye. Any
lid procedure, including blephroplasty, will use
    a standard 15 blade on a 3 knife handle.
    Cutting category.

15
Wekcel Eye Spears
  • These sponges are compressed and expand when they
are wet. They are lint free, extremely
absorbent, and become very soft when moist.
These properties make them ideal for use during
eye procedures and almost any other procedure
done under the microscope. They are not radio
    opaque but should be counted.

16
Eye Pad
  • These pads are used to dress and protect the eye
after eye procedures. They might also be used to
protect the non-operative eye during the
    procedure.

17
Jameson Muscle Hook
  • This hook is used to retract eye muscles during
eye procedures involving the muscles. They
    belong to the retractor category.

18
Graefe Forceps
  • These forceps are used by plastic surgeons for
grasping tissue firmly but without using damaging
teeth. The tip is like an allis clamp.

19
.12 McPherson Forcep
  • This micro tipped forcep is used during eye and
other microscopic procedures. They will be used
singlely during the procedure and in pairs when
    tying suture. Grasping category.

20
Bishop-Harmon Forceps
  • These forceps are microscopic and used in eye
procedures. They have the distinctive 3 hole
design on the sides of the instrument.

21
Chalazion Forceps
  • This grasping instrument holds the blister like
chalazion prominently so the surgeon can incise
    it.

22
Colibri Forceps
  • This is a microscopic grasping instrument used
during cataract procedures. It is used to peel
the membrane away from the lens of the eye.

23
Cyclodialysis Spatula
  • This microscopic instrument is used as a probe
during cataract procedures to help the suction
tip evacuate all of the particles of damaged
    lens. Miscellaneous.

24
Desmarres Retractor
  • This retractor is used during eye procedures and
    nose procedures.

25
Eye Calipers
  • This instrument is a measuring device used in
    micro procedures.

26
Lid Speculum
  • This is a self retaining retractor used to keep
    the eyelids open during operations.

27
Kirby Muscle Hook
  • This retractor is used during eye muscle
procedures to hold muscles out of the operative
    site.

28
Castroviejo Needle Holder
  • This spring loaded needle holder comes in locking
or non locking varieties. Be sure you ask the
surgeon which type he prefers so he is not
surprised when looking at the tip under the
microscope. It is not appropriate for him to
expect it to lock and he ends up dropping the
stitch, or for him to expect it to not lock, and
he tears the stitch through the tissue. These
miscellaneous instruments are made for use with
microscopic needles used under the microscope.

29
Westcott Scissors
  • These micro scissors are used for all cutting
under the microscope, both tissue and suture.
The fine micro sutures will not damage the
    scissors.
