What is Learning to Learn?

• The aim of the Learning to Learn course is to
  help students to become better learners, not just
  in school but in real life too.
• The course is designed to help students develop
  skills and attitudes to learn well, under
  whatever conditions they face.
• Students at Kingsmead have Learning to Learn for
  two hours a week in year 7.

Why should students learn how to learn?

• 80 of children in their first year of primary
  school will enter careers that dont exist now,
  involving technology that hasnt yet been invented

• The amount of information in the world is
  doubling every 2.5 years
• Today engineers find that half their knowledge is
  obsolete within 5 years
• Employees will change professions, not just jobs,
  4 or 5 times during their working lifetime

Homework

• Year 7 students are expected to read through
  their class work at home and complete any
  homework set on a daily basis.
• Written homework will be set when necessary to
  reinforce learning that has taken place in lesson
  time and to prepare for future lessons.

Homework Help

• Subject support is shown on all Challenges.
• ICT rooms are available at lunch time and after
  school.
• Saturday Study club will offer individual support
  from 10 until 1pm.

Saturday Study

• Saturday study 10.00am 1.00pm
• Based in the school library
• Students decide when to arrive and when to leave
• No school uniform
• A relaxed working atmosphere
• Broadband internet access
• Water and fresh fruit
• At least three members of the teaching staff,
  plus Sixth Form helpers

• Ask your child about school regularly
• Check the bag!
• Use the personal organiser, and make sure your
  child does too.
