  • A story that has meaning beyond the obvious,
    often teaching a lesson or having a moral

  • Any reference to something that exists in
    history, literature, or the bible.

  • A technique to expose and analyze a characters
    personality (beyond what they look like and what
    they say).

  • The way a character speaks based on geographic
    location, class, and colloquialism.

  • A scene in a literary work that interrupts the
    present action to go backward and tell what
    happened at an earlier time.

  • The technique of giving hints or clues that
