11The growth of the Regional Depository Library
Collection
- 2004-2006
- Visibility of government documents increased when
400,000 Marcive retrospective records (1976-2000)
were loaded into the OPAC and became easily
accessible to the public. On January 6, 2006
Suzanne Ebanues from GPO stated - The University of Idaho was among the first
group of regional libraries to participate in the
OCLC holdings project. From Feb. 1, 2005, when
the project began, to Jan. 6, 2006, the
University of Idaho's holdings symbol has been
added to 12,177 OCLC records produced by GPO. - By 2005, University of Idaho collection consists
of nearly 1 ½ million items of which 20,000 are
non-tangible electronic documents.

13Federal Depository Libraries existed over 100
years are your source for yesterday, today and
tomorrows government information
- "A popular government without popular
information, or the means of acquiring it, is but
a prologue to a farce or a tragedy or, perhaps
both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance
and a people who mean to be their own governors,
must arm themselves with the power which
knowledge gives." James Madison, 1822 - "Our users cover a wide spectrum, local
businessmen, university community, and interested
citizens that often require current information
on proposed regulations and legislation. The
importance of timely information is crucial in a
world of hourly change. GPO Access allows us to
keep our patrons in the mainstream." - Donna K. Smith, Reference DepartmentUniversi
