3Water Jet Cutting
- The technique allows pure water to pass through a
nozzle of small diameter, 0.18 - 0.35 mm, at very
high pressure, usually 3000 - 3500 bars. The
water now traveling about 700-850 m/sec, holds
enough kinetic energy to cut through any material
under this jet.Water Jet Cutting can be
subdivided into two branches - Pure water cutting
- Abrasive particles cutting (usually sand
4Principle of water jet cutting

jet 750 m/s

5Pure Water Jet Cutting
- The Pure Water Jet Cutting is particularly
suitable for the following materials - Thin materials which are not metal, glass or
stone - e.g. rubber, foam plastic, cellular plastic,
plywood, corrugated pasteboard, cardboard,
leather, fabrics, foodstuffs, etc - Plywood thickness lt 6 mm
- Hard plastic plates lt 10 mm
- Building boards
- Shape plates and gasket materials especially
those with intricate holes, openings or tight
radii - Due to the High speed (15 m/min) and
opportunity to fit several nozzles, the Water
Jet Cutters are especially suitable volume
cutting work
6Abrasive Water Jet Cutting
- In Abrasive Water Jet Cutting, sharp crystals of
sand are introduced into the high speed water jet
stream significantly enhancing the cutting
capacity and the ability to cut very hard and
firm materials. - Abrasive Water Jet Cutting is ideal for cutting
jobs that cannot be performed by traditional
methods - Firm fiber-, sandwich-, encapsulated- or
honeycomb structures - Valuable materials due to minimal waste
- Ground stone, hardwood
- Detaching a piece of material from the middle of
the plate - Copper
7Abrasive Water Jet Cutting
- Glass including laminates anti- bandit
- Titanium
- Alloys
- Stainless steel
- Aluminium
- Abrasive Water Jet Cutting is suitable for
complicated sheet metal jobs, as parts can be cut
in stack without the need for additional trimming
to the finished part e.g. - Gear wheels
- Components with difficult corners, tips, holes
openings and complex contours
8- COLD Cutting Process
- - no heat affected zones, no hardening
- - stress-free cutting
- Water Jet Cutting doesnt harm the surface
Briefly, Water Jet Cutting is the best method for
cutting almost all materials.

20Garnet feed rate can be adjusted accurately via
CNC-control System even during the cutting
process
No downtime required in replacing the garnet
dosing nozzle to change the flow rate. Garnet
flow can be changed during cutting ( for example
at corners where the increase in the garnet flow
will allow increase in the cutting speed)
automatically controllable via program auxiliary
functions
Lip seal design protection for X1, X2 and Y axis
Perfected design of protection to the drives for
abrasive water jet cutting applications. No
chance for abrasive or water getting in to the
ball screw drives and therefore causing wear and
rust. (Resulting in reduced accuracy and
increased downtime)
Robust steel construction of the machine frame.
No vibration i.e. better cut edge quality.
Machine tolerates more arduous shop floor use.
21Additional cutting heads can be retrofitted
without reducing the overall working width of the
machine
This means that you do not need a larger width
machine to accommodate dead space of
additional cutting heads resulting in more
available shop floor space for other activities.

X1 X2 axis Rotating ball screw 40 mm diameter
in Y-axis Calibrated using a laser-measuring
device!
- Heavy-duty ball screws guarantee cut accuracy
better than 0.1 mm. - From experience, the accuracy has been maintained
for periods 6 to 7 years or even longer.
Central lubrication points on machine in easily
accessible positions.
Low and quick maintenance times therefore
reduced downtime and cost.
Pre-tested, modular construction
Ensures very short installation and start-up time
giving more time for training and production
start-up
Features Benefits
22Quick and easy reversing of the machine back
along the cut contour for example during failure
in the cutting process
Reduced down time without interrupting and
restarting the program cycle.
High-pressure filters fitted at the inlet of each
cutting head as a standard feature
Reduces consumable wear and therefore cost.
Technology databank for water jet cutting
parameters
Cutting parameters can be called up relating to
material type, thickness and even contract name.
The parameters (cutting speeds, kerf, pressure,
abrasive flow and piercing time) are
automatically downloaded into the
CNC-control This means that an operator with no
experience of water jet cutting techniques can
use the machine and maintain a consistent cut
quality

23Efficiently with multi-heads
