Title: Even Jesus Wasnt Like Jesus

1
Even Jesus Wasnt Like Jesus
2
What is Revival?
  • REVI'VAL, n. from revive. (Webster's 1828)
  • 1. Return, recall or recovery to life from death
or apparent death as the revival of a drowned
    person.
  • 2. Return or recall to activity from a state of
languor as the revival of spirits.
  • 3. Recall, return or recovery from a state of
neglect, oblivion, obscurity or depression as
the revival of letters or learning.
  • 4. Renewed and more active attention to religion
an awakening of men to their spiritual concerns.

3
  • Are we serving the real Jesus as revealed in the
bible, or a religious idol that we have
manufactured in our minds based on our religious
    upbringing, public education, previous hurts,
personal feelings, and our own willful
    expectations and demands?
  • Maybe it is time to focus on the biblical Jesus,
and let him change us into His image-not change
    Him into ours

4
Jesus didnt talk about sin?
  • Another wimpy idea brought to you by Satan

5
Jesus Preached Repentance
  • 12 When Jesus heard that John had been arrested,
he left Judea and returned to Galilee. 13 He went
first to Nazareth, then left there and moved to
Capernaum, beside the Sea of Galilee, in the
region of Zebulun and Naphtali. 14 This fulfilled
what God said through the prophet Isaiah
  • 17 From then on Jesus began to preach, "Repent of
your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of
    Heaven is near."
  • Matthew 412-17

6
Told Sinners the Truth
  • John 416-20
  • He said to her, "Go, call your husband and come
here." The woman answered and said, "I have no
husband." Jesus said to her, "You have correctly
said, 'I have no husband' for you have had five
husbands, and the one whom you now have is not
your husband this you have said truly."
  • The woman said to Him, "Sir, I perceive that You
    are a prophet.

7
Mark 1017-22
  • As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up
to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, "Good
Teacher, what shall I do to C inherit eternal
life?" And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me
good? No one is good except God alone.
  • "You know the commandments, 'DO NOT MURDER, DO
NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, DO NOT STEAL, DO NOT BEAR
FALSE WITNESS, Do not defraud, HONOR YOUR FATHER
    AND MOTHER.'"

8
  • And he said to Him, "Teacher, I have kept all
these things from my youth up." Looking at him,
Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, "One
thing you lack go and sell all you possess and
give to the poor, and you will have treasure in
    heaven and come, follow Me."
  • But at these words he was saddened, and he went
away grieving, for he was one who owned much
    property.

9
Jesus Wasnt Always Nice
  • 37 As Jesus was speaking, one of the Pharisees
invited him home for a meal. So he went in and
took his place at the table. 38 His host was
amazed to see that he sat down to eat without
    first performing the hand-washing ceremony
    required by Jewish custom.
  • 39 Then the Lord said to him, "You Pharisees are
so careful to clean the outside of the cup and
the dish, but inside you are filthyfull of greed
and wickedness! 40 Fools! Didn't God make the
inside as well as the outside? 41 So clean the
inside by giving gifts to the poor, and you will
    be clean all over.
  • Luke 1137-41

10
Matt 231-36
  • Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his
disciples, 2 "The teachers of religious law and
the Pharisees are the official interpreters of
the law of Moses. 3 So practice and obey whatever
they tell you, but don't follow their example.
For they don't practice what they teach. 4 They
crush people with impossible religious demands
and never lift a finger to ease the burden.
  • 5 "Everything they do is for show6 And they love
to sit at the head table at banquets and in the
seats of honor in the synagogues. 7 They love to
receive respectful greetings as they walk in the
marketplaces, and to be called 'Rabbi.' 8 "Don't
let anyone call you 'Rabbi,' for you have only
one teacher, and all of you are equal as brothers
    and sisters.

11
  • 9 And don't address anyone here on earth as
'Father,' for only God in heaven is your
spiritual Father. 10 And don't let anyone call
you 'Teacher,' for you have only one teacher, the
Messiah. 11 The greatest among you must be a
servant. 12 But those who exalt themselves will
be humbled, and those who humble themselves will
    be exalted.
  • 13 "What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious
law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you shut
the door of the Kingdom of Heaven in people's
faces. You won't go in yourselves, and you don't
    let others enter either.
  • 15 "What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious
law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you cross
land and sea to make one convert, and then you
turn that person into twice the child of hell you
    yourselves are!

12
  • 16 "Blind guides! What sorrow awaits you! 17
    Blind fools!
  • 19 How blind! 23 "What sorrow awaits
    youHypocrites!
  • 24 Blind guides!
  • 25 "What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious
law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are so
careful to clean the outside of the cup and the
dish, but inside you are filthyfull of greed and
    self-indulgence!
  • 26 You blind Pharisee!
  • 27 "What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious
law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are
like whitewashed tombsbeautiful on the outside
but filled on the inside with dead people's bones
and all sorts of impurity. 28 Outwardly you look
like righteous people, but inwardly your hearts
are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness.

13
  • 29 "What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious
law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you build
tombs for the prophets your ancestors killed, and
you decorate the monuments of the godly people
your ancestors destroyed. 30 Then you say, 'If we
had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would
never have joined them in killing the prophets.'
  • 31 "But in saying that, you testify against
yourselves that you are indeed the descendants of
those who murdered the prophets. 32 Go ahead and
finish what your ancestors started. 33 Snakes!
Sons of vipers! How will you escape the judgment
    of hell?

14
  • 34 "Therefore, I am sending you prophets and wise
men and teachers of religious law. But you will
kill some by crucifixion, and you will flog
others with whips in your synagogues, chasing
them from city to city. 35 As a result, you will
be held responsible for the murder of all godly
    people of all time

15
Jesus never got angry?
  • Another common misconception

16
John 217
  • And He made a scourge of cords, and drove them
all out of the temple, with the sheep and the
oxen and He poured out the coins of the money
changers and overturned their tables and to
those who were selling the doves He said, "Take
these things away stop making My Father's house
    a place of business."
  • His disciples remembered that it was written,
"ZEAL FOR YOUR HOUSE WILL CONSUME ME."

17
Eph 425-32
  • Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH
EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are
members of one another. BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT
SIN do not let the sun go down on your anger,
and do not give the devil an opportunity
  • Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth,
but only such a word as is good for edification
according to the need of the moment, so that it
will give grace to those who hear.

18
Righteous Anger vs. Unrighteous
  • Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you
were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all
bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and
slander be put away from you, along with all
malice. Be kind to one another, tender-hearted,
forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also
    has forgiven you.

19
Jesus was never Harsh with the disciples?
  • Oh really?

20
Luke 937-62
  • The next day, after they had come down the
mountain, a large crowd met Jesus. 38 A man in
the crowd called out to him, "Teacher, I beg you
to look at my son, my only child. 39 An evil
spirit keeps seizing him, making him scream. It
throws him into convulsions so that he foams at
the mouth. It batters him and hardly ever leaves
him alone. 40 I begged your disciples to cast out
the spirit, but they couldn't do it."
  • 41 "You faithless and corrupt people," Jesus
said, "how long must I be with you and put up
with you?" Then he said to the man, "Bring your
    son here."

21
  • 42 As the boy came forward, the demon knocked him
to the ground and threw him into a violent
convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the evil spirit and
healed the boy. Then he gave him back to his
father. 43 Awe gripped the people as they saw
this majestic display of God's power.
  • While everyone was marveling at everything he was
doing, Jesus said to his disciples, 44 "Listen to
me and remember what I say. The Son of Man is
going to be betrayed into the hands of his
enemies." 45 But they didn't know what he meant.
Its significance was hidden from them, so they
couldn't understand it, and they were afraid to
    ask him about it.

22
  • 46 Then his disciples began arguing about which
of them was the greatest. 47 But Jesus knew their
thoughts, so he brought a little child to his
side. 48 Then he said to them, "Anyone who
welcomes a little child like this on my behalf
welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me also
welcomes my Father who sent me. Whoever is the
least among you is the greatest."
  • 49 John said to Jesus, "Master, we saw someone
using your name to cast out demons, but we told
him to stop because he isn't in our group."
  • 50 But Jesus said, "Don't stop him! Anyone who is
not against you is for you."

23
He Rebukes Them
  • 51 As the time drew near for him to ascend to
heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.
52 He sent messengers ahead to a Samaritan
village to prepare for his arrival. 53 But the
people of the village did not welcome Jesus
because he was on his way to Jerusalem. 54 When
James and John saw this, they said to Jesus,
"Lord, should we call down fire from heaven to
    burn them up?"
  • 55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them. 56 So they
    went on to another village.

24
Insensitive to Family
  • As they were walking along, someone said to
Jesus, "I will follow you wherever you go."
  • 58 But Jesus replied, "Foxes have dens to live
in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has
no place even to lay his head."
  • 59 He said to another person, "Come, follow me."
  • The man agreed, but he said, "Lord, first let me
return home and bury my father."
  • 60 But Jesus told him, "Let the spiritually dead
bury their own dead! Your duty is to go and
preach about the Kingdom of God."

25
  • 61 Another said, "Yes, Lord, I will follow you,
but first let me say good-bye to my family."
  • 62 But Jesus told him, "Anyone who puts a hand to
the plow and then looks back is not fit for the
    Kingdom of God."

26
Hebrews 18-9
  • But to the Son he says,
  • "Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever.
You rule with a scepter of justice. You love
    justice and hate evil.
  • Therefore, O God, your God has anointed you,
pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on
    anyone else."

27
Jesus Was Mean to Peter
  • But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind Me,
Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me for you
are not setting your mind on God's interests, but
    man's."
  • Matthew 1623 NASU
  • 23 Jesus turned to Peter and said, "Get away from
me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You
are seeing things merely from a human point of
    view, not from God's."
  • Matthew 1623 NLT

28
  • Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If any of you
wants to be my follower, you must turn from your
selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me.
  • 25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will
lose it. But if you give up your life for my
    sake, you will save it.
  • 26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole
world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth
    more than your soul?
  • Matthew 1624-27

29
  • My child, don't reject the Lord's discipline, and
don't be upset when he corrects you. For the Lord
corrects those he loves, just as a father
corrects a child in whom he delights.
  • Proverbs 311-12 NLT

30
Even Mean to His Own Family
  • Matt 1246-50
  • While He was still speaking to the crowds,
behold, His mother and brothers were standing
outside, seeking to speak to Him. Someone said to
Him, "Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are
standing outside seeking to speak to You.
  • But Jesus answered the one who was telling Him
and said, "Who is My mother and who are My
    brothers?"

31
  • And stretching out His hand toward His disciples,
He said, "Behold My mother and My brothers!
  • "For whoever does the will of My Father who is in
heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother."

32
Jesus never drank wine or feasted?
  • Where did you come up with this one?

33
Jesus Hung Out With Sinners
  • Matt 1118-24
  • 18 For John didn't spend his time eating and
drinking, and you say, 'He's possessed by a
demon.' 19 The Son of Man, on the other hand,
feasts and drinks, and you say, 'He's a glutton
and a drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors
and other sinners!' But wisdom is shown to be
    right by its results."
  • 20 Then Jesus began to denounce the towns where
he had done so many of his miracles, because they
hadn't repented of their sins and turned to God.

34
Denounces Cities to Hell
  • 21 "What sorrow awaits you, Korazin and
Bethsaida! For if the miracles I did in you had
been done in wicked Tyre and Sidon, their people
would have repented of their sins long ago,
clothing themselves in burlap and throwing ashes
on their heads to show their remorse. 22 I tell
you, Tyre and Sidon will be better off on
    judgment day than you.
  • 23 "And you people of Capernaum, will you be
honored in heaven? No, you will go down to the
place of the dead. For if the miracles I did for
you had been done in wicked Sodom, it would still
be here today. 24 I tell you, even Sodom will be
better off on judgment day than you."

35
Luke 533
  • One day some people said to Jesus, "John the
Baptist's disciples fast and pray regularly, and
so do the disciples of the Pharisees.
  • Why are your disciples always eating and
    drinking?"

36
Luke 733-35
  • For John the Baptist didn't spend his time eating
bread or drinking wine, and you say, 'He's
    possessed by a demon.'
  • The Son of Man, on the other hand, feasts and
drinks, and you say, 'He's a glutton and a
drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and
    other sinners!'
  • 35 But wisdom is shown to be right by the lives
    of those who follow it."

37
Jesus Liked Barbecues
  • 7 Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter,
"It's the Lord!" When Simon Peter heard that it
was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had
stripped for work), jumped into the water, and
headed to shore. 8 The others stayed with the
boat and pulled the loaded net to the shore, for
they were only about a hundred yards from shore.
  • 9 When they got there, they found breakfast
waiting for themfish cooking over a charcoal
    fire, and some bread.
  • John 217-9

38
Jesus Makes Good Wine
  • John 21-12
  • The next day there was a wedding celebration in
the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was
there, and Jesus and his disciples were also
invited to the celebration. The wine supply ran
out during the festivities, so Jesus' mother told
him, "They have no more wine."
  • "Dear woman, that's not our problem," Jesus
replied. "My time has not yet come."

39
  • But his mother told the servants, "Do whatever he
    tells you."
  • Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used
for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold
twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told the
servants, "Fill the jars with water." When the
jars had been filled, he said, "Now dip some out,
and take it to the master of ceremonies." So the
    servants followed his instructions.

40
  • When the master of ceremonies tasted the water
that was now wine, not knowing where it had come
from (though, of course, the servants knew), he
called the bridegroom over. "A host always serves
the best wine first," he said. "Then, when
everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out
the less expensive wine. But you have kept the
    best until now!"
  • This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the
first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his
    disciples believed in him.
  • After the wedding he went to Capernaum for a few
days with his mother, his brothers, and his
    disciples.

41
How Much Good Wine?
  • 120 Gallons 606 bottles of wine
  • 180 Gallons 909 bottles of wine on the wall

42
Jesus Didnt scare people with hell?
  • Or did He?

43
Matthew 2541-46
  • "Then He will also say to those on His left, '
Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal
fire which has been prepared for the devil and
his angels for I was hungry, and you gave Me
nothing to eat I was thirsty, and you gave Me
nothing to drink I was a stranger, and you did
not invite Me in naked, and you did not clothe
Me sick, and in prison, and you did not visit
    Me.'

44
  • "Then they themselves also will answer, 'Lord,
when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a
stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and
did not take care of You?'
  • "Then He will answer them, 'Truly I say to you,
to the extent that you did not do it to one of
the least of these, you did not do it to Me.'
"These will go away into eternal punishment, but
    the righteous into eternal life."

45
Jesus Love Is Conditional
  • "He who has My commandments and keeps them is the
one who loves Me and he who loves Me will be
loved by My Father, and I will love him and will
    disclose Myself to him."
  • "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word and
My Father will love him, and We will come to him
and make Our abode with him. "He who does not
love Me does not keep My words and the word
which you hear is not Mine, but the Father's who
    sent Me.
  • John 1421-24 NASU
