OUTLOOK ON AGRICULTURE
  • Agriculture is the backbone of the states
    economy. It is the main contributor to the Net
    State Domestic Product (NSDP), which is about 27
    . It is also the largest employer of the
    workforce.
  • Agriculture was, and is still the mainstay of
    the people of Nagaland. So, agriculture continues
    to be the main source of livelihood and food
    security as well.

STRATEGY FOR 4 GROWTH IN AGRICULTURE
PRODUCTION The first step taken towards strategy
for 4 growth in agricultural production is the
declaration of the Year of Farmers 2006 with
Theme Empowering the Farmers This year long
celebration will be concluded with Festival of
Rice in December 2006 The main objective is to
increase productivity and to make agriculture a
sustainable business venture

  • Agriculture must be Demand Driven rather than
    Supply Driven.
  • Agriculture must be more of Participatory
    approach rather than Top-down approach.
  • Community should be increasingly involved in the
    decision making process

    Research-Extension linkages
