Who are We?
  • A new single NHS PCT covering the counties of
Leicestershire and Rutland came into being on 1
October 2006 as part of moves to ensure that the
NHS locally is well placed to deliver what
patients want more choice about their care and
treatment, speedy access to services, and care
    provided close to home
  • The new Leicestershire County and Rutland Primary
Care Trust replaced Charnwood and North West
    Leicestershire, Hinckley and Bosworth, Melton,
Rutland and Harborough and South Leicestershire
    PCTs.
  • The PCT provides the following services to its
    local population
  • Providing community services ourselves
  • Contracting with independent primary care
    contractors
  • Buying specialist healthcare services

Map of Area

Who we serve
  • We employ around 3,000 staff and have an annual
    spend of almost 700m
  • We serve a population of 660,000 who live mainly
in the geographical area represented by
    Leicestershire and Rutland County Councils
  • In general, the population of Leicestershire and
Rutland experience better than national average
health, with only a few areas (parts of
Loughborough and Greenhill ward in North West
Leicestershire), which could be described as
    seriously disadvantaged
  • Health need analysis shows significant
    differences across Leicestershire and Rutland
  • 19.5 of the local population (125,900) are under
    16 years of age
  • Older people (males over 65 and females over 60)
make up 18.3 (117,900) of the population
  • 62.2 (401,100) are of working age (16 to 64
    years).
