Title: Key Performance Indicators
1Key Performance Indicators
2KPIs are everywhere
- In the public sector who have to have them
- In the private sector becoming more common
- A lot of people doing them badly
- Forget that measurement is a waste of money
- Change is what is important
3Why have them?
- Can be useful
- Shorthand to tell us about projects
- Tell other people about how we do
- Use them to drive change
4So how can I do them?
- Generally people try to be too clever or make
things too complicated - Lots of data and information can be difficult to
manage - Start with the basics
- We need to think about what is important and
measure that
5Whats important?
- We can think about what makes a good project
time, cost, quality, safety, happy client? - We can think about what makes a good business
profit, low staff turnover, repeat business? - What is important to us as a business to know?
profit, safety etc.? - What is important to tell clients waste, local
labour, energy use?
6What now?
We pick a number of KPIs which look at our
projects and business. This should allow us to
have a broad understanding of what is going on
with important issues No more that 8 - 12

to makes changes - Only when we change stuff do we add any benefit
to the business - It is an ongoing process

real difference to how you do things
