10- The schools perspective . . . . .
- Neil Beacock who am I and why me?
- Where do current data collections take place?
- Who are the subjects of this census?
- Why do we have to undertake it?
- Why do a pilot?
- What is the DCSF committed to?
- What is the DCSFs intention?
- What are the expected benefits for schools?
- Thoughts
- The main messages are
11- Where do current data collections take place?
- School level
- LA Level
- National Level
12- Who are the subjects of this census?
- School based staff in
- Maintained Nursery Schools
- Maintained Primary Schools
- Maintained High Schools
- Maintained Special Schools
- C.T.C.s
- Academies
- LA centrally employed staff who support schools
13- Why do we have to undertake it?
- A Statutory requirement!
Provision of information to authorities by
schools maintained by them 5. On receiving a
request from the authority by which a school is
maintained, the proprietor of that school must
provide to that authority such information
referred to in Schedule 1 to these Regulations as
is so requested concerning each qualifying worker
or qualifying trainee employed at or otherwise
engaged to work at that school.
STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS - 2007 No. 2260 EDUCATION,
ENGLAND The Education (Supply of Information
about the School Workforce) (No.2) (England)
Regulations 2007
14- Why do a pilot?
- DCSF say we must do it!
- All LAs must take part
- A minimum of 10 of all schools
- Local differences local problems - local
solutions - Ensure first live collection is fit for purpose
15- What is the DCSF committed to?
- Better data collection methods
- Better and greater use of data that is collected
16- What is the DCSFs intention?
- The DCSFs intention is to have the ability to
provide data back to schools and the LA to enable
them to support and develop - Staff recruitment and retention strategies
- Equal opportunities monitoring
- Sickness absence monitoring
- Salary structures
- Evidence bases for existing and new policies
17- What are the expected benefits to schools?
- A lessened bureaucracy by
- Reducing the burden to provide data
- Avoiding the duplication of data requests
- Reducing the need for paper based forms and
returns - Better quality data on the current school
workforce - Ensuring compliance with the Data Protection
Legislation - The ability to benchmark workforce
characteristics - Improved planning of staffing resources
18Thoughts . . . None of this is new collection
of data on the workforce already happens. Only
one new data item disability SWF Census
assumes data is up to date
19- The main messages are
- Dont get stressed, dont panic
- The LA and schools are all in this together
- If there are problems lets make them in the
pilot and correct them before the live collection - As pilot schools, help is readily available you
just have to ask - We will all become experts by 2010!
20And a last thought . . . . . . . .
Following a recent School Workforce Census, Leif
Ingersen, a Norwegian born teacher currently
working in a Kings Lynn school, found his name
missing from the return. He complained to the
IRCs Nigel Peacock who apologized profusely
about the omission saying he must have taken Leif
off his census.
