Title: UHF Frequency Allocation for RFID in Korea

1
UHF Frequency Allocation for RFID in Korea
Chang-Joo Kim ETRI
On behalf of MIC

Contents
  • Current Frequency Allocation in the UHF Bands
  • 860-930 MHz frequency allocation
  • 433 MHz frequency allocation
  • MIC Policy for UHF RFID Frequency Allocation
  • 910-914 MHz
  • 433 MHz

3
Current Frequency Allocation 860-930MHz
  • Current frequency allocation at 860-930 MHz bands
  • TRS(Trunked Radio System) 851-866 MHz
  • Airport Communication 866-869 MHz
  • Mobile Communication 869-894 MHz
  • Wireless Data Communication
  • CT-2 910-914 MHz
  • Cordless Phone
  • Pager
  • Wireless Microphone 928-930 MHz
  • All frequency bands are already allocated

4
Frequency Allocation (contd)
  • For RFID, MIC has searched for the possible
    frequency bands
  • MIC found out that CT-2 frequency bands
    (910-914MHz) were not used
  • MIC considers allocating these frequency bands to
RFID with the ISO 18000-6 air interface
    specification

5
Frequency Allocation for 433 MHz Band
  • The 433 frequency band is allocated to Amateur
    Radio as follows
  • Frequency range 430 440 MHz
  • Radiated Power 25 W
  • ISO is now developing new standard for active
    RFID at 433.92 MHz
  • MIC considers this issue important, but has not
    found any solution yet.
  • MIC will continuously discuss this issue.

6
MIC Policy for RFID Frequency Allocation
  • Passive RFID(18000-6)
  • MIC will allocate the 910-914 frequency bands for
    RFID
  • MIC continuously seeks to find more frequency
    bands for UHF RFID
  • Active RFID(18000-7)
  • MIC will continuously discuss this issue
  • 13.56 MHz
  • Korea industry requires raising the power level
  • MIC will also consider increasing the power level
    from 80.0 dB mV/m to 93.5 dB mV/m
