GÉANT2

• 7th generation of pan-European research network
  infrastructure
• Project partners 30 NRENs and over 3500 research
  and education establishments
• Funded jointly by NRENs and European Commission
• Project timescale September 2004 - August 2008
• Extension to Q2 2009
• Four year project, GEANT3 planned from Q3 2009 to
  Q2 2013

Connection to European medical sites

• GEANT2 is congestion-free backbone
• EU medical sites can only connect to GEANT2 via
  European NREN
• European NREN networks are generally
  congestion-free
• Important to check if potential EU medical sites
  are connected to European NREN!
• University hospitals are generally connected
• Not many other EU medical sites connected, but
  numbers are increasing
• DVTS is not widespread in EU, so propose it to
  your EU partners!
• TEIN2 programme wants to encourage more
  collaborations with Europe!
