Its about one month into the fifth grade school
year. Everyone was excited for the final year of
elementary school. Excitement filled the air as
students arrived to school.

Oh really! Does she look nice?
Shes not very pretty if thats what you mean.
I wonder what grade she is in and who her teacher
is.

Wow, Im so lucky to have my closest friends in
my class. I dont know what I would do without
them!
Look, there is a new girl walking with the
teacher out in the halls!

Okay class, its time to start math. Take out
your books!

For lunch, my group of friends always brought
sack lunches. I always sat next to Emily and
then Renee and Cody sat on the other side of the
table.

It looks like she must be a fifth grader since
she eats during our lunch hour.
Look, there is that new girl again.

No, Im sorry. This seat is saved for someone
else.
We dont want her to sit by us since she is
different. She does not have our style so we
dont want to include her in our group.
Oh no, it looks like she is walking towards our
table!
Hello, my name is Jessica. Could I sit by you

Cody just said that so she would not sit by us.
We arent saving this seat for someone else.

During recess, my group decided to play four
square. It worked out perfectly since there were
four of us. We played one round of four square.

Im sorry, we already have four people to play.
Maybe you could ask someone else.

I feel bad for not including her since she is new
and she is looking to make friends. My group and
I made her sad since we did not let her sit by us
at lunch and did not let her play four square. I
need to say something to my group.

I think we should include Jessica in our four
square game. We should be nice to her especially
since she does not know anyone here.
I mean she is way different from us girls.
Yeah, I guess.

In order to make friends, you have to meet them.
If I stuck to my group all the time, those would
be the only girls I would know.
I realize that I made a new friend by including
Jessica in the game.
I have learned that you cannot just always be
with the same friends all the time.
Im glad that my group decided to let Jessica
play with us.
