Title: Criterion-Referenced Test Results
1- Criterion-Referenced Test Results
- A Report of Progress
- Selected School Districts
- Dr. Charity Smith, Assistant Director
- September 11, 2003
2Criterion-Referenced Tests
- Criterion- referenced tests are customized around
the academic standards in the Arkansas Curriculum
Frameworks and are developed by committees of
Arkansas teachers. - These criterion-referenced tests are administered
to establish the level of student achievement
with the expected performance levels set by the
State Board of Education. - The progress of all student populations is
annually reported through the general and
combined reports.
3Performance Levels
- Advanced Advanced students demonstrate superior
performance well beyond proficient grade-level
performance. - Proficient Proficient students demonstrate
solid academic performance for the grade tested
and are well-prepared for the next level of
schooling. - Basic Basic students show substantial skills in
reading and writing or mathematics however, they
only partially demonstrate the abilities to
apply these skills. - Below Basic Below basic students fail to show
sufficient mastery of skills in reading and
writing or mathematics to attain the basic level.
4Moving Distributions
- The goal should be to enable all students to
reach the desired levels therefore, any
definition of progress should include success in
reducing the number of students at the lowest
level of achievement as well as increasing the
number attaining and exceeding the standard. - (National Research Council, 1999)
Note Due to rounding, some scores may vary.

18Student AchievementA Shared Responsibility
- We are extremely proud of the academic gains our
students have made, and we appreciate the hard
work of educational service cooperatives, local
school boards, administrators, teachers, parents,
and students. -
- These selected examples demonstrate that when
data is properly analyzed, and instructional
delivery is aligned to content standards,
achievement improves by moving the distribution
annually.
