Title: Java Major Project

1
Java Major Project
  • Gary Greer

2
Project Overview
  • the major project in Java requires students to
plan, build, and test a major software
    application
  • it is planned that students will work in pairs as
this will reduce the workload, enhance learning,
    and encourage teamwork
  • the product will be a version of a PacThing game

3
Section 1
  • Section 1 is a planning phase
  • no code is written here
  • no assistance for Section 2 will be given before
    Section 1 is complete
  • here you will develop the specifications for your
game, the plan for testing, the division of
labour between partners, and the features to be
developed for Version 1.0 and Version 2.0 of the
    game

4
Section 1 Development Cycle
  • the Software Development Cycle describes the
steps for the production of good quality software
  • you will become familiar with the Cycle and
create a Concept Map to show your understanding

5
Section 1 Team Planning
  • you will need to determine the tasks each member
    will be responsible for
  • as the project is collaborative, you will
obviously work together on many aspects
  • however, you should also determine who has
ultimate responsibility for the critical parts of
    the work
  • to assist you in your decision making, you will
create a list of the strengths of each team
member in relation to the project

6
Section 1 Specifications
  • the specifications state what the game will do in
    as much detail as possible
  • this should include computer based drawings, GUI
features, scoring, game play descriptions, rules,
    etc.
  • as this will be used in assessing the final
    project, submissions with insufficient detail
will be need to be redone

7
Section 1 Testing
  • the testing procedures are written before the
program is written so that we have a way of
assessing whether the program works as planned
  • as this will be used in assessing the final
    project, submissions with insufficient detail
will be need to be redone
  • a sample testing list is provided in the project
    to start you off

8
Section 1 Summary
  • this is the planning section for the project
  • no code will be discussed
  • this section needs to be completed to your
instructors satisfaction before you can go on to
    the next phase
  • the results of this phase will be used to assess
    your program
