1
Future of the Exchange Network Whadya Node?
Exchange Network Node Mentoring
Workshop Presented by Molly ONeill New
Orleans, Louisiana February 28-March 1, 2005
2
Agenda
  • Vision for the Future
  • Grants

3
Vision for the Future
  • Seamless access to data
  • Web services expanded
  • Interoperability among partners
  • Growth in partners utilization and
    proliferation of technical infrastructure
  • Ultimate Goal 2008?
  • All data flows use the EN exclusively
  • Partners do away with all the many different
    old ways of doing exchanges

4
2005 Performance Measures
  • Move away from measuring performance on building
    nodes
  • Begin measures which address programmatic issues
and move toward institutionalizing the Exchange
    Network
  • Establishing 2005 Measures while developing long
term out year measures and metrics for success
    (2006-2008)

5
2005 Proposed Metrics
  • Provide improved access to data through the
    expansion of web service
  • Maximize the value of the Exchange Network by
    documenting economic efficiencies and cost
    savings
  • Foster new partnerships and collaboration among
    partners
  • Filling existing and newly discovered data gaps
  • Demonstrate that the Exchange Network supports
    improvement with data quality

Ultimately, these types of measures are most
important to stakeholders
6
2005 Grant Program
  • Awards expected this summer (earlier than the
    previous 2 years)
  • EPA doesnt want to compromise the 2006
Presidential Budget request by holding onto the
FY2005 grant monies before Congress debates 2006
    budget request.
  • Therefore, if EPA has questions on the 2005 grant
proposal, please be expedient in responses

7
Grant Program Future
  • Because states/EPA are having success with
implementing the Exchange Network, it has higher
    visibility
  • More questions will be asked..
  • What have they accomplished with the dollars
    spent?
  • How was the money used to meet those goals?
  • Therefore, we have to continue to show success,
leverage resources, and share and document
    success stories
