of PGR
2
The countries and the focal persons
  • Belgium Mr M. Lateur (Centre de Recherche
    Agronomiques de Gembloux CRA)
  • France Ms V. Jamilloux (Bureau des Ressources
    Génétiques BRG)
  • Ireland Mr G. Rennick (Plant Genetic Resources
    for Food Agriculture )
  • Liechtenstein (No focal person)

    Grassland and Evironmental Research IGER-WP)

The Belgium status
  • Before 2002
  • No national policy of PGR
  • At least 6 institutions manage the PGR
  • At least 12 species are in collections 11 230
    accessions
  • most of the species are fruit species
  • Only 2 collections are computerized
  • Since 2002
  • The PGR policy is under the responsibility of the
regions which will develop the PGR management
  • The most work is the development of a Platform
Biodiversity and a Biodiversity Resources in
    Belgium federal web site
  • The NI is focused, for the moment, on fruit
    species

4
The French status
  • BRG defines and organizes the National policy of
    PGR
  • Each network is a group of curators with an
    animator and steering committee
  • The National collection of a network is composed
    with material given by curators
  • A National collection is relative to a species or
a group of related species, managed by a network
  • All the material and the information associated
in National collections, is in free availability
  • The National collections are computerized at 90
  • The PGR are hold by 26 networks
  • National collections count 168 species 30 000
    accessions
  • Since EPGRIS
  • French National Inventory is defined by whole of
    National collections
  • The networks are encouraged to use the MCDLv2
  • 2 National collections are ready to upload their
    data to EURISCO

5
The Ireland status
  • The national PGR policy is coordinate by the
Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural
    Development
  • 7 germplasm holders (5 public institutes and 2
    private organisations) maintain PGR
  • Collections count 20 species gt 1 000 accessions
  • Since EPGRIS
  • The national coordinator design and put in place
the database for the National Inventory
  • All concerned agencies and institutes are
contacted and sort their inventory to integrate
their data in the national Inventory
  • Data entry in database and making available at
least on Department of Agriculture web site

6
The Netherland status
  • The Dutch national policy is managed by the
Centre for Genetic Resources, The Netherlands
    (CGN)
  • All the material and the information associated
in CGN collections, is in free availability
  • The 85 collections, in the country, count 287
    species represented 25 000 accessions
  • Since EPGRIS
  • the Dutch NI include the documentation of the
    CGN PGR collections
  • The Dutch NI data are on-line searchable
    database
  • CGN waiting for the MCPDLv2 and the EPGRIS
uploading mechanism to translate data into EURISCO

7
The Switzerland status
  • In 1900, the Federal Research Station for Plant
Production (RAC) started the constitution of its
    wheat collection
  • Since 1991, the Commission for the Conservation
of Cultivated Plants (CRC) co-ordinates the PGR
    activities, particularly the preparation and
maintenance of the NI in collaboration with RAC
    and Federal Office for Agriculture
  • In 1999, The National Plan of action finances a
fruit trees inventory (with data base) and other
projects concerning PGR and the development of
    concepts for PGR conservation
  • The conservation of PGR is carried out by 30
public and private organisations and represents
    19 000 accessions
  • Since EPGRIS
  • The NI is created with accessions of which long
term storage is assured (MCPDL is used)

    (DEFRA)
  • PGR activities are shared out different national
    structures among UKPGRG, IGER
  • The material is in 18 collections maintain by 14
public or private organisations. They use the
MCDPL and they have their own documentation
    system
  • collections count ? species ? accessions
  • Since EPGRIS

    existing ways
  • IGER is nominated to coordinate the procedures
    for implementing the UK NI
  • All curators of collections are contacted to
prepare the procedures for implementing NI
  • IGER manage the translating from collection
    databases to UK NI database
  • Waiting for the MCDPLv2 and the EPGRIS
definition procedure for the data to importing,
    updating and publishing NI data

Conclusions

constitute their National Inventory. One is not
    engaged yet
  • All focal persons are active and they understood
the interest of the EPGRIS project
  • 2 approaches for National Inventory
  • The availability of material and documentation
  • The availability of documentation only
  • Some countries are ready to upload data, others
one have to make operational their own procedures
  • All the countries need the validate MCDPLv2 and a
