• The rough ER is a network of tubules, vesticles
  and sacs that are interconnected. The ribosomes
  on the rough ER has an important function. They
  produce proteins that certain secretory cells
  need to carry out into their environment, such as
  digestive enzymes and protein hormones. Once
  these protein have been made, they are moved
  through the channels of the rough ER. The
  proteins eventually gather up in little pockets
  towards the end of the rough ER. The pockets are
  called vesticles which expand like water balloons
  and are carried off to the Gogi in the cell. You
  can mainly find the rough ER both animal and
  plant cells.

The difference between the rough ER from the
smooth ER, is that the rough ER has the ribosomes
and the smooth ER dont.
