I. Location and Government
  • Atakapa could be found in the east Galveston
    Bay Texas as far as north present day Huntsville
    and Jasper.
  • They lived in certain parts of this area.
  • There were four or even five different parts of
    Atakapa.
  • They lived in small little bands.
  • They broke to small groups of family to hunt.

II. How They Lived
  • They trapped small animals for food.
  • Woman having babies stay in huts by themselves.
  • They hunted for deer , buffalo , and more.
  • They also love to eat fish.
  • They cooked birds eggs and ate them.
  • Woman would get other certain plants.

III. Homes
  • They lived in tiny lodges made of tree branches.
  • The huts were build on higher grounds.
  • Sometimes will build huts with shells most of the
    time.
  • The homes are like the nomadic Natives of Texas.

IIII. Dress and Weapons
  • Men wore breechcloths , woman wore skirts of
    Spanish moss and grass.
  • They also use tattoos too.
  • Atakapa painted there whole bodies.
  • They carried the bow and arrow.
  • They used long antler tipped spears too.

  • The people believed in a God.
  • They also were taught how to not ever do evil
    things.
  • They thought good people went up and bad people
    went down when they died.
  • They believed in a great rain and flood.
  • People used herbs as they preformed rituals and
    cures.

  • Their clothes and homes were a lot like other
    Natives.
  • Hunting and gathering was the only way to get
    food.
  • They had different kinds of beliefs also.
