French And Indian War
  • The French and Indian war was in the 1750s. The
British were arguing with the French in England
and the fight was moving to North America and
getting bigger. The cause of the war is that the
British wanted to take over the French land and
fur trade in North America. The British thought
that America belonged to the them. The effect of
the war was the Proclamation of 1763 was made and
later England taxed the British in America for
    the war.

4
Proclamation of 1763
  • The Proclamation of 1763 was a law, written by
King George the third after the French and Indian
War, that said no settlers were allowed to settle
West of the Appalachian Mountains. England was
in debt and King George was afraid that if the
settlers moved onto Indian ground that they would
have another war and no money to pay for it. The
cause of the proclamation is the French and
Indian War that England won for the settlers. The
effect is that the settlers still moved West onto
more land because they were mad.

5
Stamp Act
  • The Stamp Act is the act that required the use of
a stamped paper for legal documents, newspapers,
and even playing cards! They put a stamp on the
paper or document to say that it is paid for.
The cause is that the British needed more money
because they were still in debt. The effect was
that the colonists were mad because it was the
first direct tax on the colonists.

6
Townshend Acts
  • The Townshend acts were made by Charles
Townshend, who became the treasurer of England.
He convinced Parliament to pass new import taxes
on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea.
Townshend wanted lots of power and that is what
he got and he used it against the colonists. The
cause is that it was a trick on the settlers to
cut British land taxes and tax the colonists for
it. The effect is that that the colonists were
mad and soon the Townshend Acts were repealed.

7
Boston Massacre
  • The Boston Massacre is when the British troops
were sent to Boston to enforce all the acts and
rules sent from England. The troops always had
to deal with riots and crowds all day. One night
a group of soldiers were dealing with a crowd and
a soldier accidentally fell and shot his rifle
when a snowball was thrown at him. The other
soldiers took that as a signal and started firing
into the crowd. They killed 5 people. The
troops to court and were tried. Two were found
guilty of manslaughter and 6 were acquitted. The
cause is that a soldier accidentally fired his
gun. The effect is that 5 people were killed and
the British troops were taken out of America.

8
Tea Act
  • The Tea Act was passed by the British Parliament.
In Boston it was a tax placed on tea that made
colonists very mad because they drank tea often.
Britain even lowered the prices of tea to get the
colonists to buy their tea instead of the tea
imported from other countries. Some colonists
still bought tea from other countries to keep
from paying taxes to Britain. The cause is that
Britain tried to force a tax on tea. The effect
    is The Boston Tea Party.

9
Boston Tea Party
  • The Boston Tea Party is when a group of men
dressed up as Indians who were led by Samuel
Adams, dumped chests of British tea into the
Boston harbor. It became known as the Boston Tea
Party. The Cause is the colonists were mad
because of the Tea Act being enforced on the
colonists. The effect is that the King closed
the harbor until all of the yea that had been
dumped into the harbor was paid for.

10
Intolerable Acts
  • The Intolerable Acts were 5 different threats to
the colonists liberty and how much control
    British controlled them.
  • Quartering Act-colonists had to feed and house
any soldier who came to their door.
  • Boston Port Act-closed Boston port until tea was
    paid for.
  • Administration of Justice-British officials would
be tried in Britain courts, not in provincial
    courts
