Step 1 Creating a slide
  • When you open up the program, choose Blank
    presentation from the list of options displayed
    on the upper right side of the screen
  • Next you will be asked to choose a slide layout.
  • You can choose any layout you wish by clicking on
    the picture of the layout you want from the list
    of options shown on the right side of the screen.

  • The program will then give you text boxes that
    you can write in or insert pictures into.

Step 2 Adding Color to Slides
  • To choose a built-in color scheme, select Format
    gt Slide Design and click on a design. (To create
    your own designs, select View gt Master gt Slide
    Master.)
  • To get background options for a single slide,
    right-click in the dark grey area outside of the
    slide and select Background. If you want more
    than a solid color, choose Fill Effects from the
    drop down menu.
  • To get color options for a text area, right-click
    on the text area and select Format placeholder.
  • A box, like the one shown below, will appear to
    give you color options.

Step 3 Adding Pictures to Slides
  • To add a clip art picture to a slide Select
    Insert gt Picture gt Clip Art from the options
    listed at the top of the window
  • This will bring up the clip art gallery on the
    right side of the screen, which has pictures you
    can insert. NOTE You might have to click the Go
    button in the clip art gallery to make the
    pictures show up.
  • To insert these pictures, simply click and drag
    the picture to where you want it

  • Adding a Picture from a File
  • To add a picture from a file to a slide Select
    Insert gt Picture gt From File from the options
    listed at the top of the window
  • Choose the picture you wish to insert, double
    click on this and the picture will appear on your
    slide.

Step 4 Adding Transitions
  • Select Slide Show gt Slide Transitions from the
    options listed at the top of the window
  • This will open the Slide Transition Task Pane on
    the right side of the screen.
  • To create a slide transition, select the slide
    you want to apply the effect to, and then select
    the desired effect from those listed. (This is
    how PowerPoint will transition into this slide,
    not out of it.)
  • There are other slide transition options you will
    need at the bottom of the task pane.

Step 5 Custom Animations
  • Select Slide Show gt Custom Animation from the
    options listed at the top of the window
  • This will open the Custom Animation Task Pane on
    the right side of the screen.
  • Click on an object then hit the Add Effect
    button. Select an animation and it will appear in
    the ordered list of animations.
  • Drag and drop to rearrange animation order and
    change the Start option to group animations
    together.
  • For more (i.e. required) options, click the drop
    down arrow on your animation and choose Effect
    Options to make further changes.
  • You will be required to make the following
    animations
  • Entrance, Exit and/or Emphasis animations for
    about half the pictures, where appropriate.
  • Introduce text normally and by word or letter.

Step 6 Viewing Your Slide Show
  • Go to the bottom of the page and click on this
    button to view your slide show.
  • ...or press F5 to start your slideshow from the
    beginning. Press Shift-F5 to start from the
    current slide.
  • To move from slide to slide simply click or use
    the space bar.
  • Don't forget to save often! PowerPoint Slideshows
    have a .ppt extension.
