• Whats the estimated timeline? When will you
  migrate and how?
• What are the advantages and possibilities that
  VISTA offers?

What is Vista anyway?

• WebCT Vista is very similar to current WebCT in
  functionality. It allows you to
• Distribute course content
• Communicate, Collaborate, and Cooperate with
  students and colleagues
• Manage and distribute student information
• Implement a variety of online student assessments

Benefits of moving to Vista

• Vista 2.0 has an improved interface - easier to
  design with Vista
• There are improvements in many tools
• Calendar
• Assignments
• E-mail
• Gradebook
• Assessments
• and there will be more!!
• Differentiated role structure (Designers and
  Instructors)

Benefits of moving to Vista

• WebCT Vista gives us an opportunity to have a
  system wide implementation. It will allow
  collaboration between all 34 USG institutions
• Faculty can share content, as desired
• State-wide data mining
• Statewide technology resources
• It is a new generation course management system
  that
• Complies with standards
• Gives us increased flexibility to meet campus,
  school and department needs more effectively

• WebCT Vista can save development and support
  time, by use of templates at different levels
• UWG template with UWG-specific info
• College-level template
• Program or dept. template
• Course Templates
• All changes at the template level propagate down!
• WebCT VISTA will integrate with other campus
  systems, allowing
• Single sign-on
• Grades in VISTA go directly to Banner
• Integration with Scantron

When will we migrate?

• The USG purchased a state-wide license is
  mandating all institutions migrate over the next
  18 months.
• Whether we are on the states server or run our
  own, has yet to be determined. A VISTA Migration
  Team is looking at this and other policy issues.

When will we migrate? Tentative Timeline

• Fall 2003 Intros specific training migration
  for Spring testers (those in-lab test intensive)
• Spring 2004 Test system USG server response
  time Migrate train next phase for Summer
• Summer 2004 Distance Programs, LIBR1101, CS
  courses, COB courses go live Migrate train
  next phase for Fall
• Fall 2004 all others go live
• Or any slowdowns will result in Spring 2005,
  instead

- Templates
Templates can be as little as a Look Feel or
as much as an entire course,complete with
content. All changes at the template level
propagate down!

• Examples of Template Use
• An institutional template could be created with
  Institutional branding, plus a unit on Academic
  Honesty or Student Orientation it could include
  links to common campus resources, such as
  library, counseling, etc.
• A program or dept template could include policies
  specific to that area.
• A course template allows for the easy
  inclusionof common materials across multiple
  sections, taught by different faculty members
  orduring different semesters.
