• Based on the 5 14 Guidelines for Mathematics
• Main textbook is Mathematics in Action with
  additional support or extension material supplied
  through related texts.

CLASSWORK

• Class/group interactive direct teaching employed
• Differentiated materials for pupils according to
  prior attainment
• Realistic yet challenging targets set for pupils
  each day
• Extension work always encouraged
• Basic numeracy skills- mental and written- are
  constantly practised
• Use of calculators is restricted to necessary
  calculations

HOMEWORK

• Daily homework from textbook
• Formal hand-in exercise one per topic
• Parents are encouraged to comment and sign every
  homework
• Differentiated to suit pupils ability

ASSESSMENT

• Block tests cover all topics previously taught.
  They are set approximately every 3 topics
• National tests will be issued to pupils at an
  appropriate time
• Parents will be informed of assessment marks
• Pupils are given review material to
  support,target and further learning

• The report you receive from Mathematics will
  provide
• Information on the particular level within 5-14
  Guidelines in which your son/daughter is
  currently working
• An indication of progress at that level
• General information on Homework, Effort,
  Attitude, Behaviour and Progress
